Pawn Shops Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves

So, Jon got impatient and bought a metal detector from a pawn shop earlier this year. Paid $75, and the thing ended up not working.

We took it back within about 48 hours. Their policy - all sales final. So all they'd give us was store credit.

They carry crap. So I've held on to that card all this time. But I went there today to see if they might have a car stereo to replace the one I had stolen the other night.

They didn't. So I told them I wanted to buy $75 worth of gold that I could take to another gold exchange and get cash for. I picked from their sale items. The pre-sale cost of the items was something around $150. The sale price was $75. Figure I'm getting more for my money this way.

So I take the two pairs of earrings to the gold exchange I go to in Dearborn. Purely based on gold weight, not a pawn shop.

$30. Whoop.dee.fucking.doo.

How do these people live with themselves? I can almost guarantee you that metal detector was back on the shelf the instant the door closed behind us, too.

god try selling them shit... i tried selling my 19 inch tv to one, they said they'd only give me $5 for it. So I laughed in his face and told him he's the biggest fuckin moron if he thinks i'm that dumb. Yeah, he got an attitude after that and said he'd give me $10 for it. I told him that I'd like him to reduce the price on this one DVD, he said no. So I told him my tv is for $30 no less. (he had one very similar he was selling for $120, just wasn't as good as mine) He pointed toward the door, I eventually just gave it to my sister when she said she wanted it. I absolutely despise pawn shops for the exact same reason why I would run one.

I sympathize sweetie, and I'm certainly no huge fan of the average pawnbroker (altho I've met a few righteous ones in my time) but... pawnshops sell jewelry at jewelry prices, not metal weight prices... they BUY the stuff at the weight price (well, close to it) How'd you figure to come out ahead (or even for that matter) on that deal? I must be missing something there.

and... the metal detector worked at the shop but then quit when you got it home? now that does suck.

I knew someone that did an experiment with pawn shops

He bought a new TV,and immediately went to a pawn shop to try to sell it,and behold they would only pay $10 dollars for it,he pretty much told them where to go.

since so many people use things like ebay and craigslist to buy and sell nowadays, pawn shops have to observe a pretty ridiculous markup to stay alive. which they will, of course, as there are plenty of desperate people who don't have computers.
