Fierce Critter Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Jon got word from the head of the company today that they have been "acquired" by a huge company out of Holland. There's no current fear that his company will be shut down, as they're in the beginning stages of building a whole new facility which will house the operations of a company bought-out from California. The company name will be changed, and they'll all become employees of the Holland company. So, where's the miracle in this? Well, they supply the same types of security portals to places all over the U.S. - including in Michigan. They have several subsidiaries in the Detroit area. This means not only would there be the need to service/repair the portals his current company has in Michigan, but there is a need to do the same on those the Holland company has in Michigan. So, this opens up two possibilities for Jon. One, the website provides lists of these subsidiaries & distributers. Jon can shop his resume out to these places in hopes of getting a job at one of those companies. Or, and this is better yet, there might be a possibility that Jon could stay an employee of this company, yet operate out of Michigan servicing & installing the units for that entire state. The 2nd possibility has us really excited. This takeover/acquisition is happening next week, so the timing is perfect. Give things a couple months to settle down, and that brings us to the beginning of June - which is when we wanted to start job hunting for Jon. I hope this is the miracle it appears to be. It's going to be a tough job going over the heads of his current employers, who are a bunch of psycho jerkoffs who would fire him instantly if he let on he was looking to change jobs. We're going to have to let things settle down a bit and then see if there's a higher level person or personnel office he can talk to instead. Fingers crossed...
Brenda Starrr Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Maybe you'll have moved to MI by the time I get up there to visit!?!
Troy Spiral (13) Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Sounds very promising. =) What are the actual names of these companies? (just curious)
Ginevra Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 That sounds so fantastic, FC, truly. I know how much you're looking forward to getting up here as quickly as you can but with the safety net you want. Have a Woodchuck with Jon for me if this goes through, eh?
TomCat Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Rubbing my lucky rabbits foot & crossing my fingers for you guys. Good Luck!

Fierce Critter Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Thanks all for the well wishes. I really hope this works out for Jon. Hey - does anyone have any advice or experience in soliciting a job in these sorts of circumstances? Jon's superiors and basically everyone running the current shop are a bunch of real jerks. The minute they get wind of someone looking for another job, they fire them. The minute someone hands in 2-weeks notice, they find a reason to let them go early. They take these sorts of things EXTREMELY personal, even if they don't treat their employees very well in the first place. Like I said, we'll be giving things a couple months to settle down. But when the time comes, I'm wondering how Jon should do this. Should he bypass everyone currently in the present shop and go to someone higher on the hierarchy? Should he contact their personnel office (not sure if they have one yet, but it would make a lot of sense)? I have a few ideas already, but anyone with knowledge/experience in this sort of touchy situation could really help us plan.
Marblez Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Definitely, go directly to corporate Human Resources (or a reasonable facsimile)! Be very very careful if planning to do anything like applying with suppliers/vendors/contractors to his current company. That is the most insulting to management.
Head Wreck Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 YAY hopefully the flannel shirt thing hasnt become terminal from over exposure
JaneDead Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 FC might kick your ass for that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> lol!
