Toll Roads In Michigan

It seems our road issues would be better if we had toll roads, since they would be financed through tolls,

not state government.

Since our POS governor can't do anything right, let alone the whole administration.

It just would be nice not to drive over moon craters.

Its better when one company owns them not government,IMO

I'm torn.

I'd like better roads.

But I'm sick of footing the bill.

I think we already ARE footing the bill- in tires that get blown out by crater-sized potholes and more gas spent navigating confusing detours or sitting still in traffic jams.

I think toll roads in MI are long overdue. I'm sick of hearing that the roads are bad because of the weather. I went to college in a place with a very similar climate and the roads were always well maintained.

No real cares here. I tend to drive surface and back roads over freeways any how. So they can toll away all they want.

As long as the money that currently comes out of our pockets for road repair goes back in.

The roads here are in rotten shape because our state doesn't regulate semi trucks so the trucks end up tearing up the pavement.

Ever notice how many weight stations are open? I personally have never seen a weight station that was open and actually doing what they are supposed to be doing.

All in all - I'm in favor of toll roads as long as the money goes into our roads but, our government is very good at taking money and not doing with it what they need to be doing.

I think that toll roads might be good...im tired of two seasons...winter and construction!!!

Yeah, we either need toll booths, or land speeders like in Star Wars. An ethanol powered, extremely low altitude, jet engined car.

But toll booths would be nice, and get those weight stations back up. Hmmm, we'd need people to work there, so's we'd create jobs too. It would also be nice to not destroy a tire going onto an onramp, not to mention if we could afford to fix the fucking roads we would be able to save gasoline and lower the fucking cost because we wont be burning excess fuel in traffic jams. My clutch and brakes would last a hell of a lot longer too.

Ok I'm done with my rant.

But I agree, toll roads would be good, small price to pay to avert big misery.

so is the plan to make toll stretches out of the existing freeways? or to build... more freeways? i'm not sure if i'd be personally happy about either, because they sure as hell wouldn't give anyone a tax break and they'd fund the public roads even less than they currently are.

if the reason the roads get shitty and in need of constant construction was because of the sheer volume of traffic alone, toll roads might equate to a good idea... but that's just not the case. the road that sees half the amount of traffic it usually does is going to go to shit in the same amount of time, and if there are twice as many roads they'll all see half as much maintenance.

The I-35 W bridge, bridge 3940, was built from 1964 to 1967, was free to traverse, and slowly rotted for the next forty years.

The Mackinac Bridge was built from 1954 to 1957, is a toll bridge, and is stronger now than when it was built.

I know which funding model I support...

Another reason our roads are so crappy is because in our fine state, the companies MAKING the roads make them 2/3 to 1/2 as thick as other states, thus making them easier to crack and fissure. Add to that our weather, and you have our streets, which look like they've been mortared.

I used to work for a local construction company......you have no idea how crooked the deals are here in reguards to road construction work and this will not help they get a ton of money already.....NO.

It'd be a good idea for common tourist areas. Other than that, no, cus it would effect me.

Depends on what roads/streets. County roads and city streets.. no. State highways and Interstate Freeways.. yes.

I say we stop all funding for roads completely, and go back to horses. Let's turn this mother fucker into the Wild West! yeehaw

I've had the same car since high school, and it's been keyed, stripped of its hubcaps and antenna, backed into, FRONTED into, and sabotaged at repair shops. I have to believe I still prefer a vandalized car to a vandalized horse.

So to your idea I say "neigh."

By that reasoning, driving your car on shitty roads shouldn't matter much. Eventually all of the roads will all turn to gravel anyway.

i COULD BE WRONG cuz i'm not like a super scientist engineer... but i believe paved roads are safer, less damaging to cars, and conducive to better mileage than gravel.

it's all moot cuz we're getting jet cars by the year 2000

Right, but paved roads cost money. That money is better spent killing Iraqis. If you simply cease to maintain these paved roads, they will slowly turn to gravel.

And I support this 100%! Let's get rid of the police force and only have a Sheriff, too!
