Is Anyone Here Really Good With Photoshop?

I'm trying to take this picture:

hair4.jpg

and select ONLY my hair, so that I can make separate layers of JUST my hair from part to the left side in one layer, and part to the right side on a 2nd layer.

Basically, so I can then take those layers, duplicate them, and apply gradient & other colorizing effects to test some hair dye possibilities.

The best I've been able to do thusfar is use the magnetic lasso tool and the lasso tool to outline the hair as best as I can. It comes out something like this, because I don't have a good enough grasp of selecting & masking in CS2 to be able to isolate the hair when it's so close in color to things like my skin tone:

If anyone out there thinks they can do better, I'd like to e-mail you a copy of the original picture and ask that you do your magic and e-mail back a multi-layer CS2 file that I can use.

Thanks for any help or advice.

I need your e-mail. :)

If no one else gets it by tomorrow, I can probably tackle it.

Thanks, Daniel.

Right now, I'm taking Gauge up on her offer.

Of course, if more than one person wants to give it a shot, I'm perfectly happy to send it to you. Just PM me your e-mail. :)

That's a tough selection problem. The tones of the hair over your left eye are damn near the same as those of your skin. On a Hi-res file it may be clearer. There are some plug-ins specifically for hair and fine detail like this. I don't have the money for them, though. Are there any decent tutorials online?

you might also want to retake the photo w/ a white background so that you don't have so much color to obscure what is your looking to do to your hair
