Can anybody recommend a good Russian or Polish restaurant? I'm dying for some Borscht, cabbage, and potatoes...

In Ann Arbor, Amadeus Restaurant at 122 E Washington St is decent. I thought it kinda expensive for the portions. But they serve cuisine of several European countries.

In Wyandotte, there's Polonus, 1744 Biddle (also Jefferson Avenue outside of Wyandotte). I live in Wyandotte, and Polonus is a staple. Their soups are excellent, especially the dill pickle & czarnina. I recommend the City Chicken or the kielbasa - fried. I prefer their pierogies boiled, but get the sweet cheese ones fried and save them for dessert. Their potato pancakes can be kinda greasy.

You might PM FierceCritter, as Polish is her thing. Hamtramck has a huge Polish population. I'm sure there's plenty of places there to satisfy your tastes. It's a community in Detroit about and hour from Ann Arbor.

Hamtramck = Paczki heaven

And a really cool place to just stick around and be seen. Being a certified Pollock myself I'll say it's grade A. There's quite a few Polish restaurants down there.

It's the only place in February where I'll stand out in a line for two hours freezing my tits off just for some deep fried doughy delicious paczkis at New Palace bakery. It's worth fighting people for .

I've not had any proper borscht since I left Madison.
