How stupid

Aug. 20-27, 2007 issue - In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is "an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation."

I have no words.

Stupid doesn't even begin to cut it.

I can't roll my eyes enough because I fear them getting stuck.

To quote my attitudinal half-Persian, Phoebe, "WHAT-EVER!"

Well, you know, they had to do this before the Dalai Lama dies. Serious business.

Other than that, everyone knows China is fucked. Comparing the U.S. to China is a bit unfair. However, I always loved this:

Just seems a stupid way to steal the political clout the Dalia Lama has.

It is stupid, but China's policies usually involve trying to change the way people think. What it will do is discourage a lot of people from searching for the Dalai Lama's reincarnation after his death. It will also discourage a lot of people from allowing their child to be discovered as the Dalai Lama. I am not so sure it is a technique that will work, but I am also sure it is not the only thing China is going to do to try to eliminate the Dalai Lama.

Sounds like China's trying to catch up with America's "Church and State" politics..

Stupid but it sux ass because of this:

By barring any Buddhist monk living outside China from seeking reincarnation, the law effectively gives Chinese authorities the power to choose the next Dalai Lama, whose soul, by tradition, is reborn as a new human to continue the work of relieving suffering.

My first experience with spiritualism besides christianity was from reading this:

He was a prisoner of the Chinese after coming out of Tibet.
