Implants For Alzheimer

Recommended Posts

Genetically engineered cells implanted in mice have cleared away toxic plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease. The animals were sickened with a human gene that caused them to develop, at an accelerated rate, the disease that robs millions of elderly people of their memories. After receiving the doctored cells, the brain-muddling plaques melted away. If this works in humans, old age could be a much happier time of life.

Happier my ass. At least if I thought I was 20 again maybe it would take my mind off the fact that I'll be 80 and none of my other systems will be working right either.

Amazing......cool.......probably good thing eventually......

ignorance is bliss lol

It would be kinda fun to be an old person......just pretend you don't remember and do whatever you want.

If they can get it working this would be a blessing indeed... after watching my uncle succumb to alzheimer's I'm terrified of it. I can't imagine anything more horrible than watching yourself deteriorate like that... feeling your mind and personality crumbling away little by little... knowing that in a couple years you'll be drooling and filling your diapers in some nursing home. And knowing that you'll be a huge burden to your loved ones... It isn't just a matter of forgetting things... in my uncle's case, he got seriously paranoid and mean. He was convinced my aunt was cheating on him with any man who happened to be around... she kept finding carving knives & whatnot under his pillow... it was really scary. I hate to think of bringing that kind of stress & grief to the people who love me. I truly believe if I were ever diagnosed with alzheimer's or some other progressive dementia, I would opt for suicide right then rather than going through that kind of hell.

Ditto.

Ever since I was a little kid, like 9 maybe, I decided that I didn't ever want Alzheimer's, AIDS, or one of my senses to be taken (i.e. Deafness, blindness, etc). Good to see that two of those are almost knocked out (they actually believe they've created a feasable vaccine and cure for HIV), and as for being blind, I'll just have to knock on wood for now  That seems more of a chance thing and isn't so prevalent.

With all due respect, you don't need any goddamn implants. At least not unless you want basketballs for tits and a shitload of back problems.

Unless you're not actually talking about THOSE implants. Maybe like a wetware jack or something to directly interface into the computer. Then no one would forget you since that would stick you into the history books. But hopefully I get one of those first!
