Update - The roads in that area have reopened.

FERNDALE, Mich. -- Police in Ferndale have a building surrounded after receiving reports of a barricaded gunman.

The situation is taking place near the west end of the Motorama Motel on Woodward Avenue, just north of Eight Mile Road, police said.

Law enforcement officials have shut down both directions of Eight Mile Road between Livernois Road and Woodward Avenue.

Hazel Park police are assisting Ferndale police with the situation.

That area was already about totally closed from that watermain break on 8 mile. So might as well shut it down totally for another reason.
