Comcast Causes Issues With Torrent Traffic

It's been widely reported by now that Comcast is throttling BitTorrent traffic. What has escaped attention is the fact that Comcast, like the Great Firewall of China uses forged TCP Reset (RST) packets to do the job. While the Chinese government can do what they want, it turns out that Comcast may actually be violating criminal impersonation statutes in states around the country. Simply put, while it's legal to block traffic on your network, forging data to and from customers is a big no-no.

On that same note, I have been reading up on some other things Comcast is doing like the possibility of another rate hike as well as trying to bottleneck people into buying the extended coverage with the Big Ten Network. I have already heard from a few sources that this extended coverage is no better than regular TV coverage as the Michigan/App State game was cut short by another game so everyone watching through that channel missed one of the biggest moments in NCAAF history. I think Comcast is becoming too big of a conglomerate and should be dismantled and able to let other companies compete over the same underground lines.

Comcast sucks for many reasons. One of the lame ones is why we switched to Wide Open West though (that and VOIP which I'd been promoting the advantages of too). First it was Continental Cablevision which was great, then Media One which I was iffy about but then finally gave in, then came ComCast and it all just went to hell. Some corporations are just more evil than others. They don't mean to be at first but they have to maximize profits and to do that usually means screwing over their customer.

I am not going to get fired for defending the company in a forum setting, but I will tell you in spite of all of our bitching, they do treat employees well, and in the kind of economy Michigan has right now, and the fact that many other corporations have jumped ship in this state, I would say that it isn't all that bad. Decide what you like about it.

That's cool. Not too many can say that about their employers.

Yep. A friend of mine was paying an insane amount to have an insanely fast upload rate so he can seed for torrents. Comcast has basically cut off the upload rate completely. HOWEVER, they failed to tell him and continued to bill him. Needless to say, he's no longer a Comcast customer.
