The Good News: They Didn't Hit Him This Time

I can't believe this.

Jon got to take all last week off due to his being attacked last Tuesday.

Yesterday, he worked at Metro Airport all day.

Today, his 2nd job was another little grocery store in Detroit. I talked to him briefly this morning, he was still working and couldn't take time to talk.

Then I called him around 2:00 or so. He was in the middle of going over videotape from the store's security cameras, and couldn't talk much except to tell me:

He got robbed again. This time, it was strictly the workvan. They have typical service vans - long vans with double-doors on the back, a large door on the passenger side, and the two doors that enter into the passenger area.

Some time last year, they had to install these big hockey puck-like Master locks on the rear and side doors because the guys were getting their tools stolen while on the job in Detroit. Jon had these on, and is fanatical about locking the passenger area doors.

While he was working, they busted into the passenger side door, and entered the rear of the van through a metal door that leads from the center of the passenger area to the back.

They stole everything. Jon had to buy all his own handtools, and they supplied some electrical tools like a power hammer, drill, saw, etc.

But the rest, Jon bought himself. We spent a lot of money over the past couple years upgrading him from old cruddy tools bought at yard sales or found in the trash to newer Craftsman and Stanley tools from Meijer's, Wal-Mart and Sears. Wrenches of all kinds, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, hammers, prybars, an expensive circuit tester that we lucked out for $5.00 from a yard sale (value is about $125), etc. All gone.

I think the company will cover replacing the tools through insurance. But I'm not sure how much value they cover. Don't know if he'll be able to get equal value replacements, or if he'll have to make do with Big Lots and Harbor Freight cheapies.

Please, please, Great Lakes Automatic Door, follow up on that resume Jon sent you and give him a job up in Traverse City. PLEASE.

I don't know anyone that has had as much bad luck as the two of you have. Sucks every time I hear something happens. He is lucky he wasn't there when it happened if they had a gun. We got word a couple of days ago about a local truck driver delivering to a grocery store around Schoolscraft and Evergreen getting shot and killed over the guy trying to take the delivery truck. Fuck that, I would say go ahead and take it, here are the keys and I'll see you in jail after I ID you in a lineup fuckhead!

Damn! WTF is wrong with people. This completely sucks, but thankfully he was not personally assaulted this time. I hope his company covers the expense of the tools and I really hope he hears from the potential employer with good news soon.

Damn that's some shitty luck for him right there...I mean what are the odds? I usually roam around Detroit all the time both in car and on foot frequenting businesses and sightseeing and nothing has ever happened. Although it is very true that if you "place" yourself correctly in your surroundings and made it seem natural that you're supposed to be there, mostly speaking, the natives will leave you alone. Maybe he seemed unnatural in his surroundings...? Also, if crackheads/junkies/thugs/vagrants plainly see that he's a guy in a work van and they don't notice him there much, that will probably make them inclined to think that he's not from around the area and that it's easy prey. I dunno...he should carry some mase on him or something, maybe take some self defense training. Detroit can be a great place when you are trained and accustomed to the forces you're dealing with, it's kinda like when you're afraid around dogs they'll attack you because they can sense your fear/uncertainty. But down there occasionally, you're just plain unlucky and in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If your shit is getting jacked either let him have it, or HIT HIS ASS (but only if there is actually a gun involved and you have witnesses, other than that you're plowing down a "pedestrian"). That's why I love my new Cobalt, has a built in "DNA tracker" as it's called, they can hunt down that little microchip from anywhere and find my car if stolen. Someone tries to take it? Here have it, just lemme grab my useless burnt CDs and I'll be on my way, sir.

Actually, some good is coming out of the latest theft. Jon gets a whole new set of Craftsman tools - brand new. A lot of what he had was cheap crap from Big Lots, yard sales, etc. The guy responsible for the buying is pissed off at the company for giving him all of a .50 cent raise after 4 years, so he's hooking Jon up sweet. :D Wrenches, pliers, hammers, prybars, wire strippers, screwdrivers, ratchets, allen keys, everything.

I was running an errand in Mt Clemens on my bike at night...some people wanted to mess with me, gangs and homeless guys around.

It ALMOST ruined my mood. It was a misty foggy night.....with it rolling in and settling in the valleys.....stark black leafless trees outlining the horizon.....It was beautiful except for the few homeless guys and hoods out to fuck up your night.

I can't move yet.

No I am fast but ya I am sick of it.....that guy that was bumped on the head down there....don't think it was teens. The homeless are territorial of which spot they sleep in......common.....I really don't think the teen wanna be tough gang did it.....but I guess they could have........they are a bunch of white spoiled brat types with nothing else to do.
