Vater Araignee Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Yes I am having a major brain fart. I have a chemical at 20% purity and I need to reduce that to 8%. Something in the back of my head keeps screaming That 2.5:3 or 10:12 is wrong. Does that nagging doubt need to be kicked in the face or am I truly wrong. If I am wrong then what is the correct reduction ratio?
angusfergus Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Assuming you mean a chemical solution... You need to turn that 20% into 8%. So you need to increase the overall volume of the solution without increasing the chemical. We'll assume you have 100 units right now of solution, and 20 of your chemical. For that 20 to be 8%, you would need to have 250 total units of solution. In other words, you need to increase the total volume by 150% without increasing your chemical. Hope that helps.
