Scary stuff. Especially when its skin-to-skin contact that spreads it.

That's what almost killed me in 2002. It was in my lungs after a lung surgery for a lung collapse. It was specifically VRSA because it was a Vancomyacin resistant strain. Double VRSA Pneumonia. Thankfully, one of my infectious disease docs was a whip and after a month of going down hill, she got me on the right meds. Took a long time, but I recovered. She saved my life. The surgeon who performed the surgery that "contaminated" me never charged me. He was a good man and I think he truly felt awful.

You do not want this. Be cautious if you have an opening (sore) on your skin. Wash your hands as often as possible. You do not want this.

They actually expect the number of deaths in America by this type of streptycoccal bacteria to surpass that of AIDS. Frightening stuff. (note that all streptococcus is NOT this form of highly deadly bacteria- people are misconceived when they see "streptococcus" because they believe that it is this bacteria. In all reality "strepto" refers to how they form in patterns on a slide, "strepto" bacteria generally link in lines. "Coccus" is in reference to the bacterial shape. Coccus means it is rounded, where sprilla would be spiral, and bacillus would mean that it is rod-shaped, vibrio is comma shaped, and so on and so forth)

Ties should be banned in hospitals. There should be washing and alcohol pump stations every twenty yards in a hospital. Wash your hands, and get rid of the fucking tie.

Simple stuff. Oh, and Doctors should be allowed to write fake prescriptions for morons that demand antibiotics for viral infections.

MRSA is SCARY SCARY stuff. In a matter of a week, a very small pimple looking thing on my stomach turned into something that had surgeons removing a 4 inch long by one inch wide by at *least* an inch or two DEEP portion of skin. In this case, im glad I've got the padding, cause if this came anywhere *near* my insides, I'd be dead. They gave me IV antibiotics, and some super antibiotic pills (the first day i was supposed to be on it, the insurance wanted to jerk me around. Thats when i learned that to pay cash it would have been 400 bucks a pill). It took weeks to recover. Wash your hands. Be careful about using too much antibiotic soap, though. Regular soap has been found to be just as effective, and the increase in antibiotic soap has seen an increase in superbugs like MRSA.

when you look into we've got all kinds of formally controlled diseases and bacteria that no longer respond to typical treatments.......there are also scores of "spores" buried that are being rlealeased in construction into the air, and in general our bodies defenses are in a compromised state due to malnutrition and the everyday stresses of life....

................. pestilence my friends.....

Sounds like we were on the same regiment of IV antibiotics and pill form even though mine was internal. Fun stuff, NOT!

WOW....someone who actually isn't stupid about meds  . Everytime I see some housewife take her "poor little kid" to the doctor for a fucking SCRATCH to get some antibiotics, I wanna hit the dumb bitch. Not only are you fucking over your little kids health in the long run, but you're fucking their immune system, and the premiums we pay on insurance. Or how band-aid makes antibiotic bandages...THEY AREN'T NECESSARY. It's a fucking cut, get over it, let it heal on its own but if it STARTS to get infected, go see someone asap. The reason that particular strain of staph is resistant to antibiotics is because of US. By taking excessive antibiotics we've successfully made all of those bacteria immune to those meds, so now we're fucked.

Thank you to all the hypocondriacs out there

I guess im not to bugged out by it cause I work in a hospital.... its everywhere, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, and the newest one Acinetobacter..... just wash your hands often. yes it can be nasty but their are many many many different forms of each one so it all depends on what you pick up......

good hygine can prevent this from spreading ... or from you contracting it.

Wash your hands with soap and warm water every day.... like 10 or more times a day.

I think the media is getting a little out of control about this whole thing.

Yes, the media is getting a bit out of control, but that's what they always do.
