The Proof! The Proof! The Proof Is On Fire!

Hi all. I'd be on and around more if it wasn't for the fact that running your own company means running around EVERYWHERE and EVERYWHEN to take care of things when you're not actually asleep... That said, we got the proof back for Pulp Dreams #1 from the printer, and it actually looks BETTER than we expected. Click here to look at the cover and a couple of sample pages!. Tell me what you think!

Anyway, a quick note about making a comic as an independent: the cost of even a *small* add in Wizard or the Comics Buyer's Guide is enough to kill most, if not all, of the profits from your print run, and both of them want you to place your ads months ahead of your product, which is ridiculous beyond words when you're just trying to start out. This is a real shame because if I could just buy two ads and be done with it, that's all the advertising I'd do. I hate advertising. I HATE sales. However, with the creative processes being what they are, you have to do many things you don't want to do in order to be able to afford to do the things that you WANT to do.

On the other hand, th enet result is that I'm sleeping better and smiling more, so go figure.

tired, but a good kind of tired

I'm really happy for you. That's so cool to be realizing a dream like this. Even the early stages.

Best of luck.

Thanks. On the bright side, the signed and numbered ones are going much faster than either George or I expected; I'm starting to wonder if we'll have any left by the end of the month for special promotions with stores. Regardless, "Terra 2920" (the story that starts in Pulp Dreams #1 and will continue in alternating issues) is a really sharp story. Frankly, I think one of the reasons I like it, aside from the high adventure, is that the hero is a little bit like me--a guy who had lived a fairly sheltered lifestyle, suddenly going out into a bizarre world for which he was barely prepared at all (which is how I felt when I came up here from Florida!). On the bright side, I'm having a great time with it! :peanutbutterjellytime:

and wait until you see the "soul slug!"

I'm not much into comics anymore. But the two pages you had on your website have me intrigued. The robot suffering from unrequited love/lust is really twisted.

How much would I have to pay up front for you to ship a year's worth of issues to my house? Part of the reason I got out of comics was I got disinterested in the monthly follow-up. I'm too lazy to do the footwork myself.

FC,

As it stands, Pulp Dreams is a fusion of two titles, TERRA 2920 and PORTAL PRIME, scheduled to print every other month, alternating with an anthology title called IF-X. A two-year subscription (not that we have an "official" subscription set-up, yet) would give you both of the stories, with TERRA 2920 in issues #1, #3, #5, #7, #9, and #11.

As yet, we have no real "mechanism" for subscription, but I am sure I could work with you offlist. What I would like you to do, mostly for housekeeping and order tracking, is to go to http://www.idea-men.us/pdspecial.html and pre-order a copy of Pulp Dreams #1. After that, we can work out the cost on the balance of what you decide to order.

Cool! If you like the way it looks, Pre-Order and get a signed and numbered copy! There won't be any signed & numbered versions available at the conventions!
