Destroit Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Yes...but was he "goth"? I'm wondering if we're going to be off the hook for this one or whether to expect floods of persecution again. Personally I think the mainstream is beginning to catch on that not all goth people come 22. calibur equipped, and they're starting to realize it's just a stupid stereotype. Sorta like how most middle-upper class white people thought all black people are thieves, sell drugs, do driveby's etc and then one day those said whities realized they were just plain retarded for thinking that. Something along those lines.
ttogreh Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I am pretty damn convinced at this point that school shootings are a media inspired event. Finland? Fucking FINLAND had a Goddamned school shooting??? It's not like there is an overt "gun culture" in Finland. He got the idea from somewhere. It wasn't from his neighbors. Maybe the media will learn to be less... enthusiastic with their reportage on this subject. Still, I fear the genie has been let out of the bottle, and we must weather the storm...
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 hrmmm... maybe it times to stop blaming every one of these school shootings on convenient scape goats.. likes "Goths" and an "overt gun culture" and start looking at the failures of society in general. BTW - Finland has the 3rd highest ratio of privately owned guns to people. They have 56 guns for every 100 people. They also have some of the strictest gun registration laws. Every type of gun must by Licensed and Registered. I've read a few times over the years that Serial killers were an "American phenomenon". Really? What about all the serial killers from other countries? Scape goats and self deprivation solve nothing.

THANK YOU. and im so fucking tired of wanting to blame the almighty media for inspiring all sorts of human depravity - to me it all reeks of wanting to declare ourselves as feeble puppets under the auspices of some grand master, hold on I have to rinse the vomit out of my mouth.... he got the idea from the same place all other humans get the idea to kill other humans - its not a media created phenomena for christ's sake.
ttogreh Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 He hated the principal. He was a bright man. He could have stabbed the principal, strangled the principal, bludgeoned the principal, used his car to ram the principal's car off of the road... No, he chose a gun. Why did he choose a gun? Seung Hui Cho, Dylan Klebold, Eric Harris, and any other glamourized spree killer. I did not know about the large number of firearm ownership in Finland, but it still seems entirely out of character for Scandinavian culture. For some strange, twisted reason, gun violence is treated with a special fascination in the media.

I think its covering a story about mass killing by children committed against other children in a place that thus far has not neccesarily shown public evidence of its younger generation having little value in general human life. It is also covering what has allegedly been called a "revolution" by this kid who committed the crime. In short english: I think the media is covering a new TREND. I also find it interesting that you chose to attach the term "glamourize" to these killers. nobody has been glamourized.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Why did jack the ripper choose a scapel? Why did Dalmer choose roofies?
Homicidalheathen Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I am pretty sure he got the idea from the media.......and at some point....america. Cause we are evil. ttogreh Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Jack the Ripper and Dahmer were most certainly not spree killers.
Steven Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Jack the Ripper and Dahmer were most certainly not spree killers. well see here were going to have to elect different categories of predator here and then decide on that whole approach as to its worthiness or not..... Im still very much of the beleif that a predator is a predator is a predator and copycatting and TV and media has little to do with what a predator is willing to do. And I still dont buy into the glamourizing of these recent killers idea. Nor can I blam e america for the breakdown of a persons psyche in Finland. you got fucken wack packs coming out of the wood work nowadays and its just going to get worse while we look to point fingers
Destroit Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Personally to me, everyone is becomming detached. People even resort to the internet now for socialization...no you don't say? I couldn't imagine... To kids people are becoming pictures on myspace, they're disassociating the emotion in their faces, the life behind who they are in REALITY, as opposed to a pixelated picture. The violence you see on the TV is just that the TV, but where are kids to know to draw the line? They're kids, I mean here I am 22 years old and I see some skinny bitch on the tele, and I'm like "That stupid whore, why don't I look like that?" The answer is because NO one looks like that, it's all angles, lighting, and more modernly: CGI. Kids see violence on TV and how are they to know any different (especially since it would be safe to say 7/10 parents leave the child rearing up to cable now)? Also, the sheer number of people in the world (which is more over emphasized by the internet, because you suddenly have access to a good number of these said people) are probably making people feel insignificant. If one person goes loco (i.e. the gunkid) and take out 8 other people, who cares right? There's still 6.5 billion other people in the world... It's easy for hate to build when you're isolated, because then you become an army of yourself against all who oppose you, namely everyone else.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Steven - I have to disagree on one point. That being that this is somehow something new. Serial Killers, Spree Killers and Mass murderers have always existed. At some points in time they could get paid to go on a killing spree. Caligula is a good example. Today, he would be locked up and treated for his mental problems. Or at least drugged to the point he was no threat to anyone else. Billy the Kid was a mass murderer. The Vandal tribe of Gauls we such barbaric assholes... going on killing sprees and destroying everything that was not thiers, that we still use thier tribal name for sensless acts of violence. look... before the gun... we had laws to control who could and could not carry a sword. People have always scape goated the tool rather than blaming the hand the holds it.
Hellion Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 The world just has way too many ppl, waaaayyyyyyy toooooo many.over 6 billion and counting.

In trms of "trends" however Im talking about modern youth being more than willing to kill modern youth outside of pressing circumstances such as war or famine or???? I just think we have a multi tiered epedemic developing. and your right Mark its not about Guns at all, nor is it about Media coverage - its about a social disease....
