lullaby1031 Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, More Scary Stories, Scary Stories 3 - More Tales to Chill Your Bones By: Alvin Schwartz I picked these up two years ago off ebay to add to my collection so I was wondering if anyone eles besides me has read these when they where younger or presently? If so, which one was your favorite book - or story? Or if you have other recommendations for me to check out to add to my shelf?
lullaby1031 Posted April 12, 2005 Author Posted April 12, 2005 Ack - :blink sorry I mess up the sub topic with a type o - you still get the idea
SomeDanGuy Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Are those the ones with the freaky pen drawings?
Fierce Critter Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I LOVED those sorts of books when I was a kid. Not sure if I read the ones by the author you mention, but I actually still have a lot of the ones I read. They're all packed away right now, so I can't tell you which ones I've got, except one - it's called Shock Rock, edited by Jeff Gelb and featuring rock & roll related short stories by authors including Stephen King, F. Paul Wilson, Etc. That was a little more "adult", but cool nevertheless.
lullaby1031 Posted April 12, 2005 Author Posted April 12, 2005 SomeDanGuy: Yep!~ I love the art work! Here's the link so you can see what they look like Scary stories books F.C. cool!
SomeDanGuy Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Hell yes I read those! Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I was really young when I read those. Why did my parents buy those for me? Maybe that explains a thing or two about me now. I still remember that there was one story about a thing that lived in a kid's closet. I don't remembe the details, but there was an accompanying illustration that haunted me for months. Especially since we had just moved to a weird little rental house where my bed faced my closet which looked just like the one in the picture :blink
TomCat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I think I encountered those a few years back, but didn't really get a chance to read them. :erm
lullaby1031 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 I had to have been around 5th or 6th grade when they first crossed my path and I've loved them ever since! I'm glad I found them when I did - if you haven't read them - you should just to take a peek.
Fierce Critter Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Just to clarify, that Shock Rock book blends horror with rock 'n roll - the stories aren't just about rock.
TearSandrille Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I remember staying up "late" when I was a kid on weekends and reading those. The only story I remember though was the thumb story. They'd probably still creep me out to this day.
lullaby1031 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 My favorite story was the one with a girl and her two older brothers where living up on top of this hill and below you could see a cemetary and she kept seeing these weird two lights and it turned out to be eyes... I won't tell the rest incase others haven't read it. :innocent
SomeDanGuy Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 My favorite story was the one with a girl and her two older brothers where living up on top of this hill and below you could see a cemetary and she kept seeing these weird two lights and it turned out to be eyes... I won't tell the rest incase others haven't read it. :innocent <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I REMEMBER THAT ONE! That definitely freaked me out too. I'd lay in bed watching the window for eyes.
lullaby1031 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Damn, You're tellin' me!! I used to check the window every night to make sure it was locked & I kept a flash light under my pillow... :fear
