Homicidalheathen Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Some fun history facts... about the early days of the white man and North America. Sometime around the start of the first millennium vikings land in North America and starts a statement. Which later dies out. 1492 - Christopher Columbus finds the Bahamas. 1497 - East coast of Canada is claimed for the King of England. 1513 - Spain starts to set up camp in Florida. 1587 - Virginia Dare, is born in Roanoke, on August 18 and becomes the first "white" birth recorded in North America. 1606-1609 - The London Company sponsors colozation; Jamestown comes onto the map, just about everyone dies from disease and starvation. John Smith is saved from that by being a captive of Chief Powhatan, and by being nursed by the Chief daughter, Pocahontas. More colonists come to Jamestown, and becomes a major trading post due to tobacco. 1616 - Smallpox epidemic kills off the Native American population in New England. 1619 - Slavery, starts in North America thanks to Jamestown. (And the Dutch whom kidnapped men from Africa.) 1620 - November 9, the Mayflower lands at Cape Cod. On November 11, the Mayflower Compact is signed, establishing a form of local government in which the colonists agree to abide by majority rule. 1621 - Plymouth Pilgrims enact a peace treaty with the Wampanoag Tribe. 1626 - Peter Minuit, buys Manhattan island from Native Americans for 60 guilders (about $24) and names the island New Amsterdam. 1630 - John Winthrop leads a Puritan migration of 900 colonists to Massachusetts Bay, where he will serve as the first governor. In September, Boston is officially established and serves as the site of Winthrop's government. 1636 - Harvard College founded. 1638 - Anne Hutchinson is banished from Massachusetts for nonconformist religious views that advocate personal revelation over the role of the clergy. The first colonial printing press is set up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 1664 - Maryland passes a law making lifelong servitude for black slaves mandatory to prevent them from taking advantage of legal precedents established in England which grant freedom under certain conditions, such as conversion to Christianity. Similar laws are later passed in New York, New Jersey, the Carolinas and Virginia. Then you have all of the events that took place that slowly lead to the American Revolution. After that you have the imperialistic push (of the United States) to the west coast. Which lead to the deaths of countless Native Americans. To the north the British North America Act, of 1867 was put in place that started the process for Canadian independence from the UK. Which later came to fulfillment in 1982 with the Canada Act of 1982. If you have nothing better to do today, you might as well read up on History. Dive around wikipedia, or watch the history channel. Oh! And don't forget, Buy Nothing Day is tomorrow.

Scary Guy Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 It's not genocide, some still live. It is however happy stolen land day. *screams like an overly paranoid hillbilly* "GET OFF MAH LAND!"
Steven Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 oh you people....as if American history is the only account of such things, this is what we do as people on this planet and always have.....incidently the Native Americans fought and raided one another too....
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Steven.. how dare you speak such lies. Native American's lived in peaceful harmony with the earth. They never drove hundreds of buffalo off cliffs to take the hides and meat of a few. They never killed each other in wars over territory. They never had cannibalistic tendency's and they surely didn't have some of the most brutal religious ceremony's in history. They were a perfect peaceful group of people where everyone was treated as an equal.... and hey, while we are glossing over real history and only focusing on he parts that support our views... lets blame every bit of slavery on the Dutch and forget all the Africans that sold other Africans to those Dutch so they could take their land and possessions.. The white Christian man is evil incarnate and everything that has ever happened that could be construed as bad/evil, no matter who committed said crime or what God's name it was done in, is ultimately some white Christian mans fault.
