A 15-year-old boy has admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a hamster after freezing it, tumble-drying it and then putting it in a washing machine.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Harrogate Youth Court.

Youth magistrates banned him from keeping animals for four years and passed a 12-month supervision order.

"What this boy did was horrendous," said RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh.

He explained that it took over half an hour for the hamster, named Poppy, to die.

After first being put in a freezer then heated in a revolving drum, it finally drowned in the washing machine.

Pugh said the animal "suffered severe pain and mental stress" and a post-mortem showed it had lesions on its feet and torn claws.

The vet concluded these were most likely caused by frostbite, trying to climb out of the freezer or hang on to the inside of the dryer drum. She died of severe respiratory or cardiovascular damage.

Poppy's owner called the RSPCA after finding the pet in the bin.

"The teenager was one of several who were guests at the owner's house," said Pugh. "The owner had been out for the evening and came home to find the evidence of what happened. There were droppings in the freezer and the tumble-dryer."

"Poppy was bought as a gift for the owner's daughter, who was obviously distraught.

"This was an act of senseless cruelty against a defenseless animal."

Me personally? I would slowly disembowel him and make him watch. That's just my style though, how about yours?

Probably out scoring some more rock.

But you didn't answer my question, how would you kill this kid?

Oooh good answer! Yeah, 'cause if I do remember correctly that's how Dahmer started, when he was a little kid he tortured animals.

AND...this kid would constantly be pummeled in his pooper by larger inmates, not killing him but definately torturing him enough. GENIUS!

I think doing the same thing to him would be fair.

yeah, I agree with Marc, doing the same thing to him would be the fair thing to do.

Yeeeah I did think of that, but shortly after coming up with the idea it fell short for a good reason: Where the hell are you gonna get a washer/dryer that big.

A freezer would be no problem but...well hmm actually, now that I think about it, laundromat washers and dryers are pretty big.

Kk, nevermind then, good answer Marc!

Who cares if he fits in the dryer or not?

YES! Now you're thinkin' more along my lines there!

I wouldn't. I would have him locked up because as has been mnetioned... he is a serial killer in the making. I would then arrange for him to get all the mental help he needs. At the same time, I would launch a full investigation into his life and the people who raised him to be the monster he has become.

I won't have someone killed for killing a hamster. Now, had he dones something like this to a human, I would put a bullet in his brain.

What what What the Fuck This is by far the most disgusting act of animal cruelty I have heard of so far !

I would stick him in the freezer hit his balls with a meat tenderizer and feed him the bits. Then, in the industrial drier with razor blades, mid evil swords, and maces. Last but not least into the Commercial wash machine on spin a few times then wash cycle.

I got it this is his problem LOL

Yup. Anything big enough for a king sized down comforter is big enough for a human.

Nawww...hamster's good enough for me  You kill a hamster and you get death by freezer-dryer-then-washer with me. So....don't kill any rodents and let me find out about it :tongue:

If I ever have to cavity search anyone and find any sort of gerbil...so help me GAWD. Uhmm now that I think real hard though, I couldn't ever picture a moment in my life that would require me to search up someone's colon for anything, but I'm sure you catch my drift. My what an awkward moment in history THAT would be

Um... it's a hamster, an animal. Like Gaf said get him the help he needs, but kill him?

Yes, not only should he be locked away forever (after a bit of torture), but who ever is responsible for raising this monster to think this was acceptable behavior needs to be held accountable as well.

I wouldn't kill him. Maybe make him stand outside all night in the freezing cold.....then walk 3 days in death valley. See how he likes extremes in temps and what not.....if he survives that then he gets to live lol

I did it when I was 8! On top of that, I was retarded (being my mother, you know this) when I was a child and did it because I thought the hamster would have fun. My whole line of though was "Well I love the twirly slide so much, I bet my hamster would too!" She didn't get hurt either, I did feel bad as an adult when I reflected back on it because she was probably really scared, but I didn't do it with ill intentions. Another kid caught the little roller coaster we built at the bottom of the slide, the hamster was perfectly safe and sound. Basically I did it because I didn't know any better, that's different  . This kid maliciously tortured the hamster to death and knew damn well what he was doing.

It's your fault I was dumb! I always blame the parent entirely! (j/k)

Yeah yeah...go on DGNers, laugh at my little childhood stories. It's fine, I know, I wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.

How about pulling the legs off a grasshopper when you were 8 or 9 years old?other than that when it comes to animals, punishment should fit the crime.I grew up with cats and dogs, and the one thing I cannot stand is anyone abusing them, I love animals. bugs on the other hand are annoying pests.

I just wonder what kind of trash parents this moron has.

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
