Fierce Critter Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Goddamn it. Damn it all to hell. I made a purchase & sent a payment via my PayPal account, with it set to auto-withdraw the funds from my credit union savings account. But for some reason, the deduction didn't go through. So they went to the credit card I have on file. Which is a debit card with Chase bank. And I didn't have $150 in chase bank. And now I have an insufficient funds fee of $106 to pay off with Chase. fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. I'm so sick of this shit. Who in fuck charges $106 for insufficient funds? Fuck.
Msterbeau Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I swear everyone rips you a new asshole for minor stuff. Probably because there's a few bad apples that take advantage of the situation. Grrr...
saechalyn Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Why didn't the deduction go through? If it's their screwup you shouldn't have to pay.
Fierce Critter Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 I have no clue. I'll have to call my credit union and ask.
Winter Steele Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 It sounds like it is Paypals fault and they should pay. If not call your bank explain the situation and ask them to take the fee off. I have done this a few times. If you are good about not over drafting Chase should be able to help.
freydis Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 at least it wasnt one fee that cascaded into 17 fees. My bank is trying to fuck me over that way. Then they refunded 6 fees and told me i was *lucky*. They need to kiss my ass.
Fierce Critter Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 I called my CU. After all is said and done, it's basically my fault. I set up PayPal to withdraw from a secondary savings account with my CU. But it turns out the account number I plugged in only works with the CU itself. So the funds I had in that secondary account should have been in my regular savings account, 'cause that's where they would have tried to withdraw from. Fuck. I've already been through the "this was an accident would you refund my fees" dance with them a few weeks ago. In that case, the initial overdraft was mostly their fault, because I noticed a potential overdraft and when I went in to deposit funds to make sure they were there to cover pending withdrawals, I asked the clerk if that was going to keep it cool or are there fees pending I don't know about. He said all was good, but it turns out fees were pending. So it resulted in a big cascade of fees that mostly weren't my fault. But in this case, I don't have a leg to stand on. But sonofabitch, we REALLY can't afford those fees right now. And I think more are pending because PayPal tried to make another withdrawal from Chase today. Fuck. I gotta get offline and go take care of this. I fucking hate this.
Onyx Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 To me, it's nothing but legal theft. I hate hate hate how banks take advantage of the hard working people the way they do. Funny thing is, the more money you have the more things they give you FREE. You get free everything if you have enough cash in there. sucks! I want revenge, dammit.

A lot of online subscriptions are predatory if you ask me. They always default to renew. So people like me who are prone to forgetting keep getting charged. They know it, they take advantage of it. Fuckers.
Fierce Critter Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Yeeeaaaaah. Add another $35 for the charge that tried to clear today. That makes a grand total of $141 in overdraft fees. And I don't even write checks on that account. This is all due to PayPal/Credit Union/Bank FUBAR bullshit. Problem solved. My PayPal account is no longer associated with my Chase account. The things I could have done with that $141.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 My kids just discovered the overdrawn charges for the first time in their wee little lives. And they are with you in the fuckery banquet. Banks suck. They charge outrageous overdraft charges these days because.....THEY CAN.
Destroit Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Psssh I'm broke NOW because of checks I unknowingly bounced in OCTOBER. Yes...still broke in December from it. I think it was like $125, and for someone in college working part-time that's alot of beer and bills money right there. Oh well, I'm getting back on my feet, I should have more money in a few weeks either from a grant or new job. Banks suck. I'm actually with a credit union, yet still they have overdraft fees. Since then I stopped putting ANYTHING besides bills on my debit card. I had put little things like gas on there, and there's float time (I didn't think it was going to be THREE weeks before it hit my account!) and like FIVE little itty things hit my empty account like a month later at nearly the same time.

This SO reminds me of that commercial where all of the bank managers come out with guns and masks and start assaulting the customers all like "PUT THE MONEY IN THE BAG! NOW! THANK YOU FOR BANKING WITH US!" and it's like "Does this remind you of your bank?" Yes. Yes it does. That's everyone's bank, but they don't have guns....they have your account.
Fierce Critter Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 I totally understand a bank's need to keep their transactions going smoothly. I understand the need for fees. But explain to me how $35 is justifiable? Even $10 is enough to get me to realize HOLDUP! Gotta get things cleared away here!!! And heere's a great one. My credit union wwill trry to pass a check twice. MEaning, it'll try a first time. If it bounces, they will try again the next day. So, say I have $20 in the bank, and a check for $25 tries to clear. it'll bounce. And my account will be debited a $25 fee, bringing my account to -$5.00. Then, the next day, they try again. And now, an additional $25 fee is deducted, putting my account at -$30. I rarely write checks anymore. I pay all my bills online, except for my electric & rent. I don't bother with getting overdraft protection because I'm very careful to make sure I don't overdraw. Neither of these most recent occurrences were either my fault, or the fault of a purposeful oversight of handling my account. It's absurd.
nilhil_glory Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 That's everyone's bank, but they don't have guns....they have your account. hence why i neither use cards often nor a bank bank... i just use a credit u.... i dont do any crazy direct deposits or any of that nonesense... i use it as a place to store my cash... if i need some.. i pulll it out early in the day in person that way i dont have to balance anything out or figure if i have enough or not in the account... if i use my card for anything (it is debit) i know exactly how much is in my bank and i always keep tabs on if the money got taken out or not before i go spending anymore

I'm so bad, temptation gets to me, I'll spend some money and then it'll float on my debit card, hitting a few weeks later when my account is empty and makes it bounce. I do the credit union thing too, but they still charge $25 for a bounced check.
Head Wreck Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 banks in the UK are terrified of charging people now. a lot of banks got taken to court over "unfair charges" and lost
Hellion Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Been through this kind of crap before,I am about to just go back to the old fashion way of saving money,by getting a safe, and storing it in an undislosed location, most banks suck these days.sorry to hear about this FC.
