Add any neurodegenerative disease to that list, like ALS. With end stage ALS, you can end up with being "locked in" to your body: Brain is still fine but unable to move at all. I think I'd prefer alzheimer's - eventually you aren't even aware there's anything wrong with you.

Well...

The good news is that the Shrub is leaving, so his moralistic passive aggressiveness to science is going with him. If Romney or Huckabee are nominated, all the Democrat has to do, basically, is make sure his or her heartbeat continues through the campaign.

With so many Republican Senators retiring, and so many others in trouble, the 'Crats could very well get a sixty seat majority in the Senate.

The bad news is that eight years have been lost. The technology might be available before Pratchett falls into the deep black abyss, but I doubt anything more than a shadow of his former self will be saved by the time any breakthroughs make it to Britain...
