Homicidalheathen Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Or any other sort of primate.......given our dna is almost alike.....? Or is that bordering on cannabalism? And, would it matter if it were human or ape if you were starving like those plane crash victims?
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Depends on how it was prepared... Desperation, like in a plane crash, breeds desperate measures... I can't say what I would and would not do in the circumstance.
JaneDead Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 would i eat an ape? fuck no. i have a hard enough time eating our "every day" animals as it is. (you know; cow, chicken, turkey)
CandyQuackenbush Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Food is food. Like what Gaf said, depends on how it is prepared. I mean if worse case happens, as long as I don't see the face, or body part, and just the meat, then yes. I mean if you watched the epsiode of Dirty Jobs, they had a part of the pig farm where they take all the food from the buffet's in Vegas, and boil it up into a slop and feed it to the piggies. They don't care whats in there, as long as it isn't glass, metal, clothing or anything else that the pigs can't eat. Sometimes, beggers can't be choosers.
CandyQuackenbush Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 is there any Franks red sauce available? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
odims_sphere Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 given the right circumstance I don't think there's anything I wouldn't eat.
ttogreh Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 A survival situation? I suppose so. Not that there is a whole lot of ape meat to be found in Detroit.
hunhee Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 is there any Franks red sauce available? Now you're talking!!!!! When I was young, my brother loved Frank's Redhot so much, my mom bought it in gallon sizes. ..haha he'd put it on everything. Now I think about Redhot and I think about him... Thanks Steven, that memory made me smile. EDIT: To answer the question, you never know what you would do in a situation where survival is hanging by a thread. I think I would prefer that if it came down to eating eachother, I would allow them to eat me, because I don't think I could eat anyone I knew.
odims_sphere Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I would allow them to eat me, because I don't think I could eat anyone I knew. taken out of context... um wow kidding of course!
Fierce Critter Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Normal circumstances - no. Desperation? Sure. Could I hunt and kill it? no. Short of fish, I don't think there's anything out there I could hunt, kill, and dress myself without weeping uncontrollably. I might change my tune if I'm desperate & starving. But let's put it this way - we love venison. And Jon was gung-ho to go on his first hunt this year. But as we thought about it, we're back to "we'll just go to the butchers after the season and buy unclaimed processed meat hunters left behind. Now, as for unusual meat, Jon and I have spent a lot of time over the past few years trying different kinds of meat outside of your usual chuck roast, fried chicken & pork chops. Our conclusions about buffalo burgers, rattlesnake cakes, lamb chops, homemade lobster, emu, and alligator? Meh. Not worth the price and/or trouble.
Para Bellum Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Human...ape...depends on whether I have Tabasco or not.
Head Wreck Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 the only thing worth saving from yank MRE's is the tobasco. if only to film the edge of your mates canteen. its red meat. i try to avoid it as much as i can
jadnifer Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 What a question... I dont think that eating an ape would be too much like cannibalism...yes us and apes are alike but we are not apes. I would not say no if offered ape meat, I try anything at least once. As far as eating another human being's flesh...it would be very difficult...even in desperation. I suppose I wouldnt know unless the situation arose...but then again the instinct to survive is very prominent in animal species. I know that if I died with a bunch of people and the only way they could survive was to eat my flesh...well I wouldnt haunt them for doing so. I would be glad that they survived something that I had not. As for having to eat someone else, I sure as hell hope they wouldnt haunt me if it came down to me having to eat their flesh.
Shade Everdark Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Screw the ape, I want the tender man-flesh. With some fava beans, and a nice chianti.
Msterbeau Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I would eat it in a stew. I would eat it with yak goo But I still do not like green eggs and ham I will not eat that, Sam I Am.
hunhee Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Screw the ape, I want the tender man-flesh. With some fava beans, and a nice chianti. bwahah you crack me up! hahhahahahahah
TygerLili Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Given a choice, no, I don't eat meat, period. In desperate times, who the hell knows what I'd do? **Edited to point out that my not eating meat has nothing to do with ethics, I just don't like it. I just read that and I sounded a little self-righteous, not intended. I have no judgement what-so-ever toward anyone else who does eat meat, gorilla or otherwise. That's all, carry on.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I think in a perfect scenario i'd just avoid meat all together. But i still do eat plenty of it. I'm fairly picky about food since i tend to get sick fairly easily. I tend not to want to "branch out" (no pun intended... or was it? lol) too much as years of practice have shown me that the risk of getting ill just isn't worth it. Especially with different kinds of meat. Although I've slowly over the years been developing a nagging ethical dilemma about eating animals in general. Although not a strong enough of a dilemma to override some tasty fried chicken with good seasonings. Frustrating how praticality overrides (potential) ethical issues huh? *reaches for the red/white bucket* From a philosophical/ethical standpoint (which i assume is the underlying idea in the topic post) since I'm still under the impression its "ethical" to eat meat, i cant say any other kind of meat (even human, given the proper context) is an issue from that standpoint.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 yep - meat is meat... Yep, cant agree more. We have taste buds that are "designed" for the flavor of meat... does it mater where it comes from? Actually, it does... that "Wild" flavor that so many game animals have... I cant stand that at all... but it comes from the fat not the meat.... So yeah, as long as the ape had a good diet and the extra fat was removed before it was cooked...
ttogreh Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Uh, I would like to point out that most great apes are in fact endangered of extinction. With that in mind, would I hunt an ape? No. If I found a fresh ape corpse, and I were starving, I suppose I would eat it then. However, the "bushmeat" trade is obliterating the populations of the great apes, and that is not a good thing.

If you where starving, and all you where living on was water, you wouldn't kill it? It's our instinct.
