My New Project

Okay, so my favorite leather trenchcoat is getting a makeover.

I first bought this thing at the PX in Wiesbaden, Germany in '97. It used to have epaulets and a belt, but those got cut off within the first year. They just cluttered up the jacket's lines, anyway. I got it because it was so damn comfortable, the leather was so soft I couldn't believe it was at a PX.

Anyway, fast forward through about ten years of wear and tear, and now it needs a facelift. I figure this thread's as good as any to keep a running tab of its modifications.

To date:

Got some paint markers and flamed out the cuffs. Nothing too gaudy, just the outlines of flames going up the sleeves. Gives it the effect of black flame outlined in blood red.

Cut off the buttons. It's a double-breasted coat, and I really liked the look, but the buttons were ass and not very well sewn in. So, I got a handful of little plastic skulls, sawed six of them in half so they'd fit flush with the jacket and made buttons of them. They look good, and more importantly actually work.

I'm posting this at work right now, so I'll have to take pics when I get home. This'll be an ongoing project, so further mods will be seen here or at CC.

Thanks!

Stores on a military base are called BX or PX.

Also now available online.

Always loved shopping at the PX, it was so much cheaper than off base.

Dude, PM me the fotos of the coat, and I can see what I would do to it.

I won't touch, just see what I can find online, and use to your advantage.

Okay, some pics as promised. On the hanger, sleeve detail and button detail.

Okay, I was going to add more pics, but for some reason it's not letting me. I'll start a gallery.

The skull buttons are cool. Good thinking. And the flames on the arms looks really good. Nice work.

Thanks. :)

There will be more to come as I think of it, and Candy gave me some good ideas, too. :D
