CLINTON TOWNSHIP - Police are warning residents of a man who posed as a police officer to try and convince a woman to get in his car. It happened at Canal and Garfield roads, where the woman had stopped to get gas.

She told police she pulled into a Mobil gas station Jan. 15 shortly after 8 p.m. The driver of an older-style sedan pulled in after her, flashing his headlights, reports said. The victim said the man pulled his car in front of hers and got out, produced a badge and told her she'd done something illegal. A woman got out of the suspect's car and yelled at the victim to get in his vehicle, according to reports.

A witness in the area told the two suspects that he was going to call the police, and the victim waited inside the gas station until the pair left.

Authorities say anyone who is suspicious of a police officer attempting to pull them over should continue driving to a safe place, and call 911 from a cell phone to verify the officer is real.

I would never eeeever let a fake cop pull me over, male or female unless I knew lights of justice were behind me. Now, if they weren't going to hurt me and pulled a fake badge out Reno 911 style. I'd laugh and be on my way.

But how can you be so sure? There is a thing called costume shops.
