Need Help - Media Downloader For Phone & Vista

I have a Motorola i860 phone. I have windows Vista.

The media program I had on my XP computer is not working with this one.

I have tried downloading and using several programs, and none of them are working. This includes DataPilot, Motorola Phone Tools, MyJal, and one called Media something-or-other (it's on Motorola's website, and is the one that worked with XP but not with Vista).

I'm getting really tired of downloading crap that's not working. I rarely seek help with this particular type of problem because it's just a matter of trying program after program to see what works. But I'm running out of options, or I don't know how to search out others.

Thanks for any help.

Oh, yeah - I need software that will allow me to take my pictures off my phone and into the computer, and software that will enable me to upload pictures & ringtones and stuff to my phone. Often they're two different programs.

OK, first a question... when ot "doesn't work"... does it give you an error or anything?

Try this.... Hopefully the program you are used to working is still installed on your pc. If not, reinstall it... then, right click the icon for it and choose "Run as Administrator"

it is probably a security thing.

If that works, let me know and I'll hook you up with a permanent way to do it.

Right now, none of them recognize the phone.

MediaDownloader is the one I'm supposed to use with this phone. It installs, but it won't allow me to click the "USB" connection, just serial. It says right on the motorola/Iden website that it works with XP, but doesn't mention Vista.

I just sent an e-mail to the Motorola/Iden customer care department. They sent an auto-reply that I should have an answer within 24 hours.

Hm. I will try what you mentioned, though. If I uninstalled any of those programs, I can re-install. I think mediapilot is a wash, though. They flat out don't include the i860 on their list of supported motorola phones. I thought it would work based on message boards I googled. guess not.

I'm trying that.

The problem is, I still have other drivers installed. And removing them via device manager or control panel isn't doing the trick. When I follow his directions, I never get the "Locate and Install Device Drivers."

I tried uninstalling under administrator, still no go.

I have tried to do a system restore 3 times now, to a point before I installed the phone drivers. The restores keep failing.

If I just go to device manager myself and try to install the drivers myself, it doesn't find the "Motorola USB Modem version 5.1.2600.1330".

I'm getting pissed.

I got my response from Motorola/Iden.

Basically, it boils down to "You are ROYALLY screwed."

The software I tried doesn't work with my phone. And the software I'm SUPPOSED to use doesn't work with Vista.

Guess I'm going to have to fire up the old eMachines if I want to do any of this.

How freaking stupid.

But at this point, I'm more concerned with why I can't freaking do a system restore.

I still like Vista.

I don't like companies that don't keep up with changes in technology for the sole purpose of getting you to buy new expensive equipment you don't really need.
