By the way, Downriver gets a lot of flack because it's supposedly "gross" "poor" "hard to drive in" lots of other BULLSHIT.

The downriver area IS primarily blue-collar. And let's compare cities, shall we? Livonia seems to come up a lot as far as cities that are "nice." So let's let Livonia be the average on the "nice meter."

The Grosse Pointes, Bloomfield Hills - cities like that will be on the "nice but you can't fucking afford it if you're not a high-level white collar worker or CEO or old-money wealthy" end of the scale.

Detroit - the worst sections - shall be the opposite end, k?

So where would downriver cities fit in that scale?

I'll put it in list form. Nicest cities to places you probably wouldn't want to live if you could bid up. And I'm not including ALL the 'burbs, just a few for reference on the scale. Some of those that I'm using to box-in Livonia I'd put on the same scale as Livonia. I don't necessarily think Royal Oak or Ferndale are better or worse, kinda on the same page, really. I'm also going heavy on the downriver cities so you can get an idea of what they're like when you look through The News Herald.

P.S. A LOT of this scale comes not from me personally, but from public perception. I might like Allen Park better than Sterling Heights (I sure as shit do), but east-siders would disagree.

Personally, with the exception of Traverse City, there's not a single city in the whole of Michigan I'd rather live than Wyandotte. Anyway...

The Pointes

Bloomfield

Rochester

Farmington Hills

Plymouth

Northville

Grosse Isle

Sterling Heights

St. Clair Shores

Royal Oak

Livonia

Wyandotte

Ferndale

Allen Park

Trenton

Southgate

Lincoln Park

Westland

Warren

Wayne

Inkster

Ecorse

River Rouge

Parts of Detroit

THere's always room for debate on a list like this. This is just coming from me, and what I've heard of personal opinions around the 'burbs. My cousins are all from the east side (Warren, Sterling Heights, St. Clair Shores, etc.) Most of them hate downriver because they can't navigate worth a shit without "Mile" roads. There are many who think River Rouge is worse than the worst parts of Detroit. Etc.

DAMNIT Critter! You've unveiled my ONE weakness to the entire board...

You should move to Clinton Twp, DBK...on my couch. My guy-on-couch-fees are $30 a week plus I get to pwn you in SNES on a weekly basis. If you do not let me skool you in MKII or Street Fighter, Clay Fighter, etc than the rent goes to $50.

Also...I must warn you, at night from my bedroom you will hear very unsettling noises, something like massive pounding and me screaming like Raven is beating the hell out of me. Do not be alarmed...I am fine.

 I kid...I wish you could move in but there's no room for another person really in my house. That and to live in my condos you have to pass credit check and application stuff.

I'll keep an eye out for you though.

The woman leaves me loaves of banana bread at my door. AND Brownies. And feeds me dinner whenever I want, which I don't let her do more than once a week, No way I'm taking advantage of her kindness. But yeah she's 100% Awesome.

I agree. That is where I first lived when I moved here and I loved it. Then again back then it was the perfect place for me 2 mile town, 52 bars!!! SWEET.

I loved my place. It wasn't a castle but it was a nice size, people were always nice, never got my car stolen or broken into ect. And the rent was way cheap! YAY for Hamtramck!!!

I'd recommend Woodhaven or Southgate. Both are safe suburbs (well, relatively safe), but both cities have everything. You'd never be too far from Meijer, Wal-Mart, etc., and Detroit isn't far at all.
