the eternal Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 So, Oscars just came and went. I'm a critic whore and a film snob, and I'll be the first to say... Did I see different movies than they did???? We usually agree on these things. No Country was a very good movie, and Javier Bardem is one of the best movie villains of all time, but I'm sorry, for a movie to be best picture, it HAS to have a f***ing ending!!! There Will Be Blood----yes, very, very little blood. You'll see it if you're not sleeping by the time it arrives. There is an awesome movie in there. It has a running time of 1 hr 40 minutes. I would LOVE to see that movie sometime The There Will Be Blood we saw ran for a full 2 hr 40 mins instead. MY FAVORITES OF THE YEAR Juno Sweeney Todd Persepolis The Namesake Ratatouille (I f***in love Patton Oswalt. His personality is a lot like mine, and he's an awesome stand up comic) A teen pregnancy comedy, a musical, an obscure French-Iranian anime, an Indian-American tale of self-discovery, and a Disney flick. I wouldn't have expected to say as much, but those are the five movies I'd want on my shelf, and I'd be happy to watch any of them over and over. You have a problem with them...I fart in your general direction! WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITES????? (This is the chance for you sickos to bring up some weird Japanese-Italian thriller where all the women get raped and the kids play jump rope with their intestines) EDITED, because I originally thought the Namesake was released in 2006. Lulu is SO much more the movie snob than I am...bitch

I need to get out more.
Head Wreck Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 i really was tempted to go see sweeny tod. its about the only musical i like (i've hated musicals ever since a kid aside from this one) but then i thought. Tim Burton same cast same camerawork same lense filters .... i'm begining to tire of burtons work
Destroit Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 You will now get to see just HOW simple I really am. I don't like movies but I LOVED 300. Not only did it look cinematically sexy, but it was well narrated, epic, and so fucking manly that just watching it made my balls finally drop after all these years. It was so fucking manly I stood up in the movie theatre after it was done and yelled out "THIS...IS...SPARTAAAA!!!!!" then kicked my boyfriend in the back like a dickhole girlfriend. It was totally sweet. I mean, do you know how MUCH testosterone a movie has to contain for me to pummel my boyfriend in the back knowing I was going to get the beatdown for it afterwards? Like Rambo amounts...that's how much. For the record...I got served when he beat my ass shortly thereafter. No Ravens were harmed in the course of watching the movie 300...well..okay...maybe his backside got PWNED...but that's all.
Head Wreck Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 indeed, 300 was great, proper sword porn. if it wasnt so good the internet reaction on SPAAAARTAAAH! wouldnt be so prevailent
Guest Megalicious Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 i really was tempted to go see sweeny tod. its about the only musical i like (i've hated musicals ever since a kid aside from this one) but then i thought. Tim Burton same cast same camerawork same lense filters .... i'm begining to tire of burtons work My thoughts exactly. I was really sad to see that Diving Bell and the butterfly was not nominated to Best Picutre, and that Transformers didn't win for some kind of sound mixing or editing. I was stoked to see The counterfiters win for best forgin. My internal little girl is screaming what about enchanted for BEST PICTURE!!!! What is truly funny is that on Christmas every year I go see a movie. I told Jarod he could pick the movie this year. I wanted to go see No country for old men and thought thats what Jarod would want to see. I ended up sitting through Enchanted, at first grumpy because I didnt want to see it. But I ended up really liking it. =) Edited to say; Of course old country won eternal. Yes it had no ending, that is the kind that is truly the best .. it leaves everyone talking.
LuluVox Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 an obscure French-Indian anime, French-Iranian. My favorites: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Control Eastern Promises Hot Fuzz Persepolis The Namesake Stardust Superbad There Will Be Blood 3:10 to Yuma Waitress Zodiac
the eternal Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 French-Iranian. My favorites: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Control Eastern Promises Hot Fuzz Persepolis The Namesake Stardust Superbad There Will Be Blood 3:10 to Yuma Waitress Zodiac DAMMIT!! In my head, I was writing French-IRANIAN. There are so many movies that come out of India. My keyboard must have had other ideas. OK, THESE ARE THE MOVIES I PLAN TO SEE--- The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Control Eastern Promises Zodiac ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd add The Namesake to MY list of faves of 2007 too. I saw it a year ago, and just figured it was one of thos 2006 movies that didn't get out here until March. Apparently, it actually didn't get released until 2007.
Destroit Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 French-Iranian. My favorites: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Control Eastern Promises Hot Fuzz Persepolis The Namesake Stardust Superbad There Will Be Blood 3:10 to Yuma Waitress Zodiac I watched Superbad with Raven and George (Constantin) and after watching we realized that we WERE those three kids. Literally, our high school personalities to a TEE. It was freakish. George being the heavier kid, same attitute and everything, Raven is the normal kid, and I...? I am McLovin. I couldn't even TRY to deny it. He did all the same stuff, said the same things, and had the same reactions I used to, it was creepy. Hot Fuzz was good because of the fact that they played off of Shawn of the Dead so much. Same bar, city, everything. Even the fences they jumped over . Another one I thought was going to be kinda dumb was Balls of Fury, but it was actually pretty DAMN good. It was such a weird mix of Reno 911 cast and Comedy Central Stand-Up comedians.
Head Wreck Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 hot fuzz rocked. my team get together and watch it before going to a close quarterss day.
Guest Megalicious Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Stardust You know I was very caution about this one, I had heard so many things, and being a fan of the book ( and the fact that I have no fucking time) I didn't go see it . So Friday the boys were gone and I'm flipping through shit on 20 million different channels. I give up and check HD listings on demand and there is was in its 1080i glory =) It was really good. and Robert De Niro was AWESOME!!! I heart that movie.
phee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 ] No Country was a very good movie, and Javier Bardem is one of the best movie villains of all time, but I'm sorry, for a movie to be best picture, it HAS to have a f***ing ending!!! I have to disagree here... I believe the ending was perfect... It summed up the entire thrust of the movie... The feel was absolute to the void that the movie portrayed. It was delicious.
phee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Eastern promises = wicked awesome AMAZING MOVIE
phee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 i really was tempted to go see sweeny tod. its about the only musical i like (i've hated musicals ever since a kid aside from this one) but then i thought. Tim Burton same cast same camerawork same lense filters .... i'm begining to tire of burtons work Big Fish was the last movie that I felt was good work by him, the rest of it is sort of him remaking the same movie over and over again.
xbittergracex Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Once was really really good....if you're into that sort of thing. Excellent. Definitely one of my favorites.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Well, I hated almost everything i saw this year. Except 300. I watched 300 again last night... for like the 300th time. makes me feel proud to be Greek (Athenian if you must know) ... though I know the real story was a tad different.
Head Wreck Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 aye, but the changes made a kick ass story
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 True, but the real story is pretty kick ass too. Also, they changed the phalanx for the movie and a few other battle stances to be more dramatic looking.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 OK, my point was not made well enough. 300 was the best I saw this year. I did not say it was a hugely great film. i agree that it ws good sword porn.

Guest Megalicious Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 You know I didn't like Control as much I as I thought I would Lu. ( Maybe it was the part where I had to drive far to see it that pissed me the fuck off!! I can't believe it didn't play anywhere close, but I suppose it could have been worse.) I really did enjoy the gig footage they put in it, I hope when it comes out on DVD they put them all together on a special feature. Edited to say Sam Riley was hot!! SUPERHOT!
phee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 My favorite movie was No Country For Old Men.... And Blade Runner (Hey they re-released in some theaters so I can pick it if I want to..... bitches)
Guest Megalicious Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 My friend just picked up the HD-DVD version and it kicks ass muchly. I'm Jealous!!!
