What Religion Are You?

Recommended Posts

I really don't want people to think that I don't care about them, and I would really like to learn what's important to them.

That being said please post your religion followed by:

What inspires you within your religion?

Do you know God exists or do you just think he does? (there's an obvious difference that not just everybody in the world can get. there's a few chemicals in the brain i think that effect people's ability to know without a doubt as well as communicate openly with him rather than praying to air or walls as i've heard some people describe)

On that note, do you think God will be mad at you for praying to the air and walls instead of him?

How does your religion work in your life?

What expectations do you have of yourself and God, and how has he influenced your expectations whether directly or indirectly?

Would you be willing to have coffee with me and not judge me for my beliefs if I promise to just sit down, shut the fuck up, ask a few questions, and listen?

Thanks in advance. I think this could actually be a "SOLUTION" in my diplomatic relationships with other people.

On a final note, one more question I would definitely like addressed.

A list of things that you find offensive to your individual self (infraction of thought, emotion, belief, etc)

Off that list, how many of those sensitivities are absolutely useless and do nothing at all but take time away from you?

How many of those offenses are worth being offended about?

How many words are there in the English language that hurt you?

How many words are there in the English language that heal you?

How many actions speak louder than all of these words?

I will come back and answer these when my brain doesn't hurt from alcohol.

As per Crucny Pickle:

What inspires you within your religion?

relationships inspire me. a relational approach to faith in god inspires me. Religion does not inspire me.

Do you know God exists or do you just think he does? (there's an obvious difference that not just everybody in the world can get. there's a few chemicals in the brain i think that effect people's ability to know without a doubt as well as communicate openly with him rather than praying to air or walls as i've heard some people describe)

I beleive whole heartedly that he exists, yes...whoch would lead me to say "I know" and lead many of you to flip me the bird.

On that note, do you think God will be mad at you for praying to the air and walls instead of him?

No offense but thats a leading question and its disrespectful and assumes that you are in teh ehad and hearts and personal lives of said people praying.

How does your religion work in your life?

religion does not work in my life. religion is tradition and legalism. that being said - my relationship with God governs how I have and make firends, how I travel in different social circles, how I seek truth, how I support people, how I stand against accusation, how I work my marriage, how I respond to the community at large, how I invest myself in charitable situations and how I put on my underwear and make sandwiches.

What expectations do you have of yourself and God, and how has he influenced your expectations whether directly or indirectly?

I'm a soldier, and a teacher. I do not yeild territory when I am scared. I do not waste time on spiritual legalism within the body of Christ but instead io challange traditional thinking. I expect men to be leaders in their homes, solid fathers, protectors of their wives and loved ones, I expect friends to be truthful with me, I expect to be challanged, I expect to take risks, i expect confirmation from God constantly that I am on teh right path.

Would you be willing to have coffee with me and not judge me for my beliefs if I promise to just sit down, shut the fuck up, ask a few questions, and listen?

allready offerred.

Thanks in advance. I think this could actually be a "SOLUTION" in my diplomatic relationships with other people.

Well put, Steven... ... :bravo

I was raised Catholic, but not devoutly. I do not practice Catholicism now. I do not follow any one religion. I seek knowledge and understanding from them all on more of a philosophical journey. The history of various religions and their beliefs, similarities and differences facinates me. Computer geek that I am, my favorite class in college was Comparitive Religions. I am not a religious person, I am a sprititual person. I have faith in many things and have faith that there is something greater than us.

That is all I can answer for now as my migraine meds have kicked in and my brain isn't functioning very well.

Christian (not any specific religion)

What inspires you within your religion?

I wouldn't say it's inspiration necessarily but when I see that God is working in my life that gives me inspiration to continue the way that I am leading my life.

Do you know God exists or do you just think he does? (there's an obvious difference that not just everybody in the world can get. there's a few chemicals in the brain i think that effect people's ability to know without a doubt as well as communicate openly with him rather than praying to air or walls as i've heard some people describe)

This is a deep question. As far as I know, expect for the fact that they think they found the Shroud of Turin, there is no physical evidence that Jesus existed. Thinking that God, who I believe is Jesus's father, exists is in my belief "knowing" that he exists. That is what faith is. Believing in something even though you don't have any evidence that you can sense. Faith is sensing something with the heart, at least it is to me

On that note, do you think God will be mad at you for praying to the air and walls instead of him?

I do NOT pray to the air and walls. If I was that would be saying that the air and walls are my God and that would be breaking the first commandment that says You Shalt Not Worship any Gods before me. It may seem to someone else that I am talking and praying to the air, but I am actually praying to a God that I know is there even though I cannot see him

How does your religion work in your life?

It has a lot to do with who I am. Sensitive, caring, putting others before myself. I try to be the kind of person that I know God and Jesus would want me to be.

What expectations do you have of yourself and God, and how has he influenced your expectations whether directly or indirectly?

I have NO expectations of God. I really don't think that he has any expectations of me except to live my life the best way that I can.

Would you be willing to have coffee with me and not judge me for my beliefs if I promise to just sit down, shut the fuck up, ask a few questions, and listen?

Absolutely, I am always eager to learn about other's beliefs and why they feel that way. I would NEVER judge someone, especially on their religious beliefs. I wouldn't mind if you asked questions. I would answer them to the best of my ability.

Thanks in advance. I think this could actually be a "SOLUTION" in my diplomatic relationships with other people.

On a final note, one more question I would definitely like addressed.

A list of things that you find offensive to your individual self (infraction of thought, emotion, belief, etc)

1) The legalization of abortion.

2) The judgment of people based on their individual beliefs

Those are the major two that I can think of right now.

Off that list, how many of those sensitivities are absolutely useless and do nothing at all but take time away from you?

Neither one of them are useless but unless I can find a way to REALLY do something about it, there is no sense in letting it horribly bother me

How many of those offenses are worth being offended about?

I believe that both are worth beinging offended about

How many words are there in the English language that hurt you?

A lot. There's not enough room here to list them all.

How many words are there in the English language that heal you?

Very many. Faith, hope, I Love You (from someone that REALLY means it)

How many actions speak louder than all of these words?

Showing me that you love me. Just saying the words isn't enough.
