Is A Life Sentence

I don't even need to click on it for me to know that however horrible his crimes, it is NEVER the right of the state to take a defenseless life.

Not even Saddam Hussein, not even Hitler, not even the spawn of Satan himself. There are very few things on which I have an adamantine opinion on.

Capital punishment is one subject on which I simply do not compromise.

I believe in an eye for an eye,the punishment should fit the crime depending on what the crime was,I have no pity or feeling for anyone 100% proven guilty for a sick violent crime.and the idea of giving human cracker earth trash like this the best medical care and such on my tax dollars really pisses me off.

Due to the constitutionally guaranteed appeals process, the death penalty costs more than life sentences, Darque.

Alot of due to repeat appealings,

There have been way too many on death row for several years.I am not sure if that is why it costs more or not.

I guess if some inmate shanks him to death in prison might be the cheapest way.

IMO I think crimminals like this should be used for chemical testing,(only the violent sick ones)

This is a tough one!

I personally don't believe in the death penalty, but this has no root in the act of being humane. My feelings are quite opposite. If someone takes another life using violence, and cruelty, I think the death penalty is too good for them. I know every situation is different, and not all cases would fall under this rule for me, BUT if someone killed someone I loved, I would want them to suffer a millon times more than they made my friend/family suffer. DEATH itself would be too humane for them in my eyes.

I am kinda against killing but, to put all hard core criminals like this on an island......well especially to have a coward like this try to pit his wits against even HARDER criminals and see how he fairs....would be just and, you could tape it for a reality show.

I am half kidding. Only half. But if you put them all on a deserted island to fend for themselves......you wouldn't have the cost of taking care of them.

Native americans banished the bad from the tribe. To try to survive in the wild by yourself was usually enough incentive to keep people in line.

I agree with you

I also agree with the island idea.

It's a Catch-22 I suppose. We have to spend the money on a person to live out the rest of their lives with the best health care, a bed to sleep, 3 meals a day, and entertainment if they are a life sentence.

Then we have the death penalty which some people want to give people because of the heinous crime that they committed, but also think that it's too good for them to just put them to death.

I personally don't really like the death penalty unless there is not a single doubt whatsoever anywhere that this person committed the crime. There has been people put to death where they later found out that they were innocent and that's a sad, sad thing.

Of course, Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye makes us all blind." Kinda like, "Two wrongs don't make a right." in modern times.

As far as I'm concerned, I think that they should make jail as hellish as possible without taking the rights away from the person because that would just causing more trouble. They shouldn't be able to have the least bit of fun, work their asses off for no money, and be fed just enough to be kept alive. I know that it may sound extreme, but I think that I'm right in thinking that the person that they killed would still like to be alive.

Not sure about the island, because it sounds like you are giving these criminals a chance, albeit a very slim one, to escape, but I think you're on the right track.

I don't really believe in the death penalty, but in cases of criminals who torture their victims, I say throw 'em all in a room together with some blunt objects and lock the door. After that, who really cares what happens?

Mmm... the whole desert island thing is not too bad of an idea. I mean, sociopaths would have to learn to work together, or surrender to their impulses and kill each other. Still, they could work together too well, and make an escape attempt. Of course, these days with satellite surveillance and Unmanned Aerial vehicles... I think it would be possible to make a nearly escape proof island.

The locked door with blunt objects... that is an incitement of violence. The state should never be given the power to harm a defenseless person, or be allowed to incite violence in order to attack with overwhelming force. I mean, let's face it... there would probably be one last murderer standing after the dust settles. I doubt once he figures out how to get past the door that he would be all that amenable to dropping the blunt object.

Still, our prison system is a farce. Murderers are housed next to potheads? What the hell is that? If anything, the whole death penalty / life sentence dyad is a zero-sum argument. We should figure out ways to use the power of the state and its monopoly on violence to somehow reduce the incidences of violence... Of course, that is easier said than done...

I agree~I believe that I like the desert island idea because it allows for that kind of element to be taken out of society, while at the same time having them face their fate. I don't think society should have to pay to house hard core criminals for the rest of their lives. We can't even take care of our homeless population properly yet, why would I want take care of someone who doesn't give a shit about others in general? Even if some of them actually learned to live peacefully together on this island, however, I would NEVER reintegrate them into society. Once they're there. they're there. If they actually created a peaceful society, that may be the only solace I would receive if I had been directly affected by one of their crimes.

I completely agree with you on this.
