Removing Piercings At Airport Terminals

Read the rule again. The passenger is the one who is allowed to volunteer to remove the jewelry as an option to pat down. They forced her to remove it. Not the same and clearly a violation of their policy.

Thank you at least some one has moral values that woman deserves an apology and if you disagree...well thats a lil heartless...even goths are allowed to have hearts...even if they are burnt black

W/e dude, I have nvr had to remove a piercing and even so they didn't have to harass her. IS IT THAT HARD TO FUCKIN APOLOGIZE!!!!!?????

Why should they apologize for doing their jobs?

Do you apologize for doing your job?

If I kill someone and get away with it does that make it okay for everyone to kill people?

Just because one breaks a rule and gets away with it does not make it okay for everyone to break that same rule.

It has nothing to do with morals. I think they were wrong, period.

I actually have to apologize for doing my job every day (lol)

On or in?

Weather a person could or not, they can't get to the cockpit anymore, since they are now armored and locked. And now that we're aware of these sorts of tactics... I'm pretty sure a plane full of passengers can take on a couple potential hijackers with tiny knives. Perhaps I'm too optimistic.

I went to home depot and missed all kinds of stuff.

you got one out of what? three planes where enough people had the wherewithal to do something? So that's what? slightly over a 33% chance?

Unfortuanlety Marc most people in a panic situation: freeze up, or sit and wait for "somebody" else to lead.

its a sad reality. By the way alot fo those hijackers can kill you without the use of that tiny knife - and will strike you in a way that is not meant to just put you down.

First. Here's the relevant part of TSA rules on this:

"Hidden items such as body piercings may result in your being directed to additional screening for a pat-down inspection. If selected for additional screening, you may ask to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to the pat-down search."

So she had the option, and she consented to the pat down.... they clearly violated there own guidelines.

Next... If they're understaffed and they didn't treat her as well as they might have because of pressure...and I understand that happens, why can't they admit it and issue an apology?

Piercings are plainly visible. (Even libia or other private parts) A visual inspection should satisfy the agents that nothing else is there. There should be no need for medical documentation like a a person who has a scalp plate.

As for her humiliation... I'm sure we'll never know the truth of that one. You think those guys are going to admit laughing at her? I doubt there were any other witnesses, so it's her word against theirs.

Read the rule again. The passenger is the one who is allowed to volunteer to remove the jewelry as an option to pat down. They forced her to remove it. Not the same and clearly a violation of their policy.

You're changing things... pick a rule and stick with it.

Just an angle noone has really looked at.

She wants on that plane. There is no law that says they have to let her. if she didn;t like the way she was being treated, she could have walked away.

Flying is not a Right. The airlines are privatly owned... they can let you fly or not let you fly on thier whim.

Everyone acts like Flying is some governmently back right... it's not.

She could have walked away at any time.

If they give her a refund... I agree with this

Why should they give her a refund if she chooses to not go through the pre-flight screening and walks away?

You never paid for something and then never used it?

I haven't changed a thing. The rule I posted states: "YOU (Meaning the passenger) may ask to remove...."

Which tells me that the first thing they're supposed to do is to pat her down and give her the option of removing the jewelry if she doesn't want to be patted down.

Exactly this woman should have had a choice and it was just plain wrong of them to treat this woman in that manor

Right, but on a side subject......the goverment bails them out when they are in trouble financially......so to me that is a grey area when it comes to whether they are completely private....just a random thought that I struggle with.

Also something else.....how embarressed is she? I saw the press conference this morning while this chick is sitting down and gloria was puting piercings on a manniquin and she has everything out in the open........This folks is what you call "Milking it".

Everyone that gets pulled over is embarressed to a certain degree, or when your check or credit card bounces when your in a checkout line. Being put on the spot in ANY situation is embarressing. With how security has been since 9/11 and they have made mention of items that will not be allowed in to an airport and yet people still bring them in.....this is really no different.

Like I said...investigate the people that pulled her in the back, if they have a record of this then fire them, if not and then to bad so sad.

I'm not sure there's a strict right to fly... just like driving. But a ticket is probably a form of legal contract. She must accept certain conditions and the airline must supply certain services, etc. There's likely something in there about screening. Most likely she would have been out the price of the ticket if she had decided not to remove her jewelry. I don't think too many people can afford to throw away plane tickets. Also... She may have had a schedule to keep, precluding driving or other options.

and if she leaves by her choice rather than do what is required to get on the plane.. thats on her, not the airline.

Follow the rules or pay the price.

Thats a lesson in life many people try to ignore.

and AI'm still not taking a side. The inccoent is being investigated.

Never go to Home Depot in the middle of a debate. :secret:

I think the only reason the people on Flight 93 did what they did is because they knew the consequences. They had heard that the other planes crashed and they knew they had to take action. Now everyone knows what's possible. They also know that a determined group of passengers can overcome a small group of terrorists. So who knows what might happen if this were to occur again.

Follow the rules or pay the price.

That's really the crux of this thing. Who didn't abide by the rules. The evidence I see thus far says she's more right then they are. I'm sure we'll see more over the next few days.

Nothing was said about not being allowed, but they can stop you

Give me justice!

Give me security!

Give me equality!

Give it to me NOW or I'll sue!

Bother me in the process and I'll sue!

I want it all, and I want it now, I don't care how as long is it's convenient for ME!

Why do piercings set off the security detectors, but the underwires in your bra or the buttons on your jeans don't?

I'm not sure what my opinion is on this. I can see both sides. I know security is overworked and under appreciated, and of course they have a right to do their jobs, but it does seem like they're a little...incosistent. I know I have gone through the metal detectors before without taking off my earrings or rings.

piercings don't set off metal detectors often - a lot of people on here have seen the pics of my forearm piercings, i'm sure, and i have nipple piercings as well. i've flown on both domestic and international flights, nad never had a problem with any of them.

Alrighty, looks like this thread has grown alot since the last time I saw it this morning.

I can bet that I've been on more plan rides than alot of people on the board. For reasons that we all know of. I've been through many-a security screens with and with out body peircings.

I have been stopped TWICE with body art. Even in full military uniform, I have been scaned and asked to step aside and actually gone INTO the screening room. I had told them that I don't recall of any metal on me, but after about 5 minutes I looked at one of the cops and said, "Wait, I um, gots some piercings... could that be it?"

And it was. So guess what I do now, I TAKE IT ALL OUT BECAUSE IT MAKES SENCE.

You all want faster screening and checking in the Airport, then do yourself a favor and stop complaining and just take out your metal before you go through. It doesn't take much time to take them out, and you can put all of them back in once you are on the plane and in the air, or if your flight is delayed, then go to the bathroom and take care of it there.

I really don't understand why everyone is freaking out about this. It's metal people, just do what you are asked, and be quiet about it. It's really not that hard to do.

So what if the person infront of you takes alittle longer, atleast you know in your brain that you are going to skate right through.

Taking piercings out IS an issue if they're relatively fresh. I can guarantee you I would not be able to put mine back in at this point if I took them out. I would be severely pissed. And as I've been saying... their policy does not require that to happen. Fuck doing what I'm asked if that's not what the rules are. It's great that it's no big thing for you. For some of us it is.
