Soothing Sounds.

I just had the worst day, and now, I'm sitting on my comfy couch, and I just heard the thunder. I haven't heard a Michigan Thunderstorm since before I left for Iraq, October 20th, 2006. It's beautiful.

Plus, I can hear the Robins outside chirpping alittle bit, it's calm before the storm.

It makes me feel so relaxed. I hate hearing the cars on the road, or the same old music on the radio. You can't capture the sound of a thunderstorm rolling in. I don't care how many CD's clam they do.

It's like nature's concert, and we all have a great view, and a great seat.

What calms you?

A purring cat.

Or

A purring woman.

I stayed in a place once where our room was OVER a running brook. Nothing like it. Not even the ocean was as soothing at night.

That room and place were magick...it was a retreat in AZ

NOT the neighbour's truck alarm ... which has been going off and on now for about 20 minutes.

Eventually it will stop or I'll go disconnect the damn battery myself.

.... I don't even think they are home ....

I love the sound of thunderstorms and a steadily falling rain. I also love the sound of crickets softly chirping on a summer's night and hearing the waves rolling onto the shore.

Gads, so many of you already said mine.

The thunderstorm thing - Candy, you described it perfectly. Down to the robins. Gods, how I love that soothing symphony of sound.

Purring cats - if I'm having trouble getting to sleep, I pick a cat (inevitably there are at least 4-6 on the bed every night) and give it a belly rub and set-off his/her purr. Yes, I use my cats, unashamedly.

Running brooks/rivers - fuck YEAH. There is nothing like a babbling brook to murmur me to sleep.

Our family used to camp on the AuSable when I was very young. :)

Crickets and/or frogs - a chorus of either or both is just a glorious earful at night.

Crackling fire - especially when tenting up north with a campfire.

Wind chimes - we have probably about 10 hanging all around the outside of the house. Big bamboo ones that have a lovely hollow wood sound. Huge ones that sound like church bells pealing. Small ones that are tuned to a tinkling chord. Tiny ones that sound like they're calling faeries to dinner.

New agey music - if I'm really desperate and can't get my mind to just STOP, I might put on the local cable digital "soundscapes" channel. Not often, though, because once I'm asleep, I thrive on absolute and total silence. It can be irritating to wake up a teensy bit and hear music playing.

I have a stack of Nature Sounds CD's I'll play sometimes. Usually by about 10 minutes into them, I'm out.

I used to put The Cure's "Faith" CD on, programmed to NOT play "Primary" and "Doubt". I can't play that CD in the car now.

"Seventeen Seconds" isn't bad, either. But you have to program out several songs on that one, too.

The cat purring thing is popular, it seems, and I'll have to add my name to it.

The wind. Not gale force, obviously, but even a stiff breeze can be calming.

That preternatural, almost-sighing sound a snowfall makes.

Puppy noises ... and wind chimes. I put wind chimes all around my house this winter ... when the house is quiet enough to hear them, it's nice.

I love the sound of thunderstorms and the beating rain on the windows.

I love the sound of my kitty cat purring in my eat at night.

I love the sound of my boyfriend's breath in my ear as he is holding me and the sound of his heartbeat as I am holding him. It's two of the greatest sounds in the world.

I love the sound of the birds outside.

Also, since I can leave the windows open, so I can hear the froggies. :)

I have to say the cat purring thing, too!!

My 2 kitties are sweet and fun and they have the LOUDEST happy purrs..

And when I am stressed I curl up and rest my head on Paul's chest. His heartbeat is like a bass drum.

..makes me happy..

..calms me down..

..and when i have hard days i like to turn up the music.. loud is good.

One thing I love doing.

But with my blood to do it is hard.

Being adhd and all

Laying down in a forest cover up in leaves and stuff.

And just chille out. and watch every animal run by.

But them damn squares take forever to shut up>.>

Cool having a bird land on my boot.

and chipmunks run around and jumping over me.

Ended up falling asleep.

One of the best damn naps I ever took!
