A South Australian father and daughter have revealed they are a couple, and have had a child together.

John and Jenny Deaves reunited 30 years after Mr Deaves separated from Jenny's mother.

Jenny was 31 and just two weeks after meeting, father and daughter had sex.

"John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults," Mrs Deaves told the Nine Network's 60 Minutes tonight.

"We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding."

Their nine-month-old daughter Celeste, shown on TV, appears fit and healthy.

Mrs Deaves said soon after reuniting with her father she began to see him as a man first and her father second.

"I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he's not too bad," she said.

"Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub."

Mrs Deaves brought two children, Samantha and Alex, into the relationship after splitting from her former partner.

Mr Deaves admitted that he "initially" thought having sex with his daughter was wrong.

"Emotions take over, as people no doubt realize, there are times during your life where emotions do rule the heart, it rules the head," he said.

"I knew it was illegal, of course I knew it was illegal but you know, so what."

Mrs Deaves said the physical relationship with her father was like "a sexual relationship with any other man".

For Mr Deaves the sexual relationship was "absolutely fantastic".

A South Australian police media spokesman said "the couple is being monitored".

I'm just so creeped out by the whole idea of this - and yikes - Can you imagine the hell that child will have to live now that they have brought media attention to themselves?

I pitty the child. That poor 9 month old. She is going to be so messed up and confused.

Her mom is her 1/2 sister.

yeah, this is both sad and sick... right up there with biological brothers and sisters getting married and having babies...

Morally, this just makes my skin crawl. And psychologically....well, they're in for some loooooooong psychotherapy sessions~ especially that child.

Devoid of any sense of morality, or of my own personal thoughts/emotions, however, I was trying to think about this on purely a biological level. What's wrong with it biologically? I believe in evolution, which, at some point, means that early Neanderthals ( or whoever) all had to have sex with one another to procreate and further their own kind. The argument there, of course, would be that we eventually end up with the human race in its current state, and was all that inter-familial Neanderthal swapping really worth it? :0

But its not like this time we're talking the fate of the human race, so there is nooooooo reason for a father and a daughter to get together biologically. Morals and positive psychological well-being win out on this one for me :->

Makes me feel sick due to natural inclination :ralph and a very sensitive issue besides. So much so that its almost difficult to even speak rationally about.

But like Tzura hints at above... from a biological standpoint the problem is minimal in isolated cases. The last 3 words in the previous sentence being there, anticipating any extensions of what I'm about to cover.

We tend to view it from our own personal perspectives and/or gut reactions. Its just something we have taboos against socially because its necessary really, to preserve and improve the gene pool. Cant have close-kin having relations even if they are consenting adults too much as it , over time , leads to problems. But one-off relationships like this have no serious evolutionary or biological implications particularly. We have developed these innate social / psychological taboos in response over time as a natural phenomenon .

Historically in various times and places this would have been a virtual non issue. Its more of just something we all collectively have decided is bad, and grosses us out , for good reason evolutionary speaking, but culturally or short-term biologically it really shouldn't be much of an issue.

But in the final analysis the social and psychological implications should , i think win out. Morso for the children than the parents. I really don't have much of a problem with the relationship itself now that I've been pondering it a bit more if there wasn't kids involved. It would gross ME out personally, but if there were no kids involved i wouldn't really even bat much of an eyelash now that i've been thinking about it for a bit longer.

That is a good point. How could any father who cared about his child allow himself to do this? She has to be somewhat screwed up mentally it seems to me. (and if she's not now, then seems to me eventually she will be).

Ick. They can both call him daddy.

That little girl needs a home where she has a fighting chance in life.

I don't like the idea of taking a child away from a seemingly loving parent, but I can't see that child ever having a chance to grow up without major psychological problems. Might be a different story if they were not in a developed country.

OK, I have a daughter. I think she's is absolutely gorgeous and I am pretty sure most guys think she has a great body. BUT!!! She's my daughter. Sexual thoughts do not even enter my mind when I think of my daughter. Thats just... wrong.

How fucked up do you have to be to want your own child in that way? I really see this is some form of... well, for lack of a better word for it pedophilla... but she's an adult so I don't know what to call it.

exactly.

and now youve got grandbaby/baby baby, cause daddy is really grand daddy.....

ultimately what you've got is three generations of disfunction and future pain.

Yeah I think that about covered it..

On a different note though either or evolution or God and creation there is some hint at yuck yuck yuck.. Ok yeah as I was saying if you go with evolution and the biological stuff then yeah once upon a time yuck.. Go with God and creation ummmm there was Adam and Eve... And somewhere there three sons had to of spawned with a sister.. Yuck. Ok I think my point is made and I'll stop before I vomit... This day and age there is no excuse for it though.. YUCK!

I had to seriously (another thread) go pray for understanding, and my usual 'cup running over feeling was replaced by mere droplets of understanding... so I got coffee, and a cigarette...

....I'm back; I still don't get it...from any point of view...the only thing I understand needs to be done is to find the room to forgive...

..and maybe throw up... :ralph :ralph ...twice...

I don't think I've ever seen :ralph used so many times in one thread.

Yup, it fits! Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew!

Men who date women young enought to be their daughter creep me out anyway, but...just...yuck.

Why stop there? Maybe when his other daughter turns 18 he can date her too. Poor kid.
