Saturday At Luna Vs Saturday At City Club?

*** to avoid confusion: DGN NIGHT IS AT CITY CLUB ON SATURDAY AND IS NOT CHANGING (at least not anytime soon)***

Would you prefer to go to LUNA every Saturday instead of CC? I'm not talking about a one-off change, i mean as a regularly hangout. Would you stop going to CC (the people that actually GO TO CC / DGN Night that is) and switch to Luna?

I've long held that DGN isn't club specific but that we have a long history at CC and its taken a long time to build up the mentality throughout the DGN community as to where/when "DGN Night" is.

I've been to Luna a few times. While it's nice, it's not my home like city club is. lol

Luna is small.....

I personally don't care for the atmosphere.....

Plus I think it is only 21+.....

Yup, 21+

MUCH prefer Luna. MUCH better neighborhood.

I can't lie, I went to LUNA recently on a Saturday.. and it was fun (it could have been the $1 jager bombs). But there's something to be said about CC that holds a special something to my heart.

I'm swearing off clubs for a bit (I think), so it doesn't matter much to me, although I did say something about trying to get more people to sign up for DGN didn't I?

I wonder if I could get people from the DSO to sign up for DGN. I'll see .. hehe

I dig Luna, but I prefer CityClub on Sat nights for several reasons:

1--CC is much larger. Much more capable of entertaining various interests (eg. dancing, talking, drinking, people watching, etc.)

2--CC has a tradition much more adherent to my own interests. Luna is a great bar, but by changing up its "theme nights" it tends to stray from the mark of a true industrial club

3--I fully support any small business that is trying to find it's way in Detroit City. Royal Oak is a nice town, but frankly they don't need our dollars as much as D-Town does.

That's my dime's worth.

I like Luna, but hy heart belongs to City. I can't dance like that anywhere else.

I dig Luna little more.

Mostly, I find you can talk with others far easyer.

Luna is not clicky type of place.

Well that is just me.

City does have great hours.

Getting smashed now and then.

Dancing like a fool till close.

Does rock!

Long with friends.

Don't matter!

Yes... my home... my sanctum... My FAVORITE... When I say Club that's what I mean... not a bar...

Luna isn't even a goth night on Saturday, it's "alternative dance" and after several hours of writing drunken requests trying to get them to play ANYTHING GOOD (LITERALLY...it sucked ALL night consistantly) they finally caved in and played two requests of mine: Tones on Tails - Go, and NIN - Down in It. Sooooo goth .

My vote stays with CC, unless they move electro-industrial Wednesday to Saturday.

I like Luna on weeknights, or occasionally on a Saturday when I just want to hang out with a few friends. I don't think it would be good for DGN night because:

1) as mentioned above, it's 21+

2) it's small

3) it's more laid back, and honestly I don't think they'd put up with the drama certain DGNers bring they way City does. Don't get me wrong, I <3 you guys, but when we get together in groups of more than 5 or 6 drama usually breaks out.

Also, for personal reasons I'd rather DGN night be at City Club because the Saturday night music at Luna is so/so at best, and I hate dancing at Luna because I always end up having to fend off older, and forgive me for being blunt, ugly guys. It's worse than at City. I don't know if this is true for all women there, or I'm just unlucky, but my friend Shawn has had to "rescue" me way more times at Luna than City

luna sucks...everytime I've gone there it was lame as hell

I don't care where dgn'rs are going I'm going to city on saturday nights!

I go to Luna & City every Saturday. Luna is packed, usually with a line out the door. It's not anything like City. I think the dgner's would bitch about the crowd & music at Luna. Luna is my favorite club but I like the music at City better. Like many others, I couldn't make it out on wednesdays for their goth-industrial night. I guess that's why they closed on wednesdays. :verymad:

If you don't mind a diverse crowd you should check it out on saturdays. If you want to hang out with nothing but goths then don't go. The staff is very cool & drama & fights never seem to happen.

Everyone just seems to get drunk & dance. :peanutbutterjellytime:

I usually hang at the bar or on the dance floor.

just my 2 cents.

So basically we can safely say that Luna isn't even a goth club anymore...hmmph...figures.

Saturday's at Luna vs Saturday's at Cityclub=no contest. Cityclub has them beat. granted, Luna's cleaner, better drink specials, but city's bigger, better hours, and it feels like home.

and J9 is still at city.

Plus Tax.

No.1 J9 Fan :D

I wouldn't say no contest. I like both clubs & go to both on Saturday nights. You said Luna is cleaner & has better drink specials. You forgot to mention MORE PEOPLE. Not to mention better sound & lights. & Luna is 1/5 the size of City.

Granted all the people are not "goths." But there are enough of them there to keep me happy.

I don't think Luna was EVER a "goth" club. But they seem to welcome "all types of people." The crowd is always completely diverse.

I think we should limit users on this site, in this thread, or forum to people who go out & frequent clubs at least once a week. It seems like we hear alot of opinions about night clubs & club nights that are talked about by people who don't actually go out that much.

just an observation,

How long have you been going? It definately was a goth club, or at least, had pretty much goth people going there not even 4-5 years ago.

Basically all of the yuppies moved into Gothal Oak and took over by way of loft invasion and money...and well, we the goths lost and were ran out of our own town.

It used to have just goth people there, I'm not sure about when it was The Groove Room, but back in the day a huge amount of people that went there were Corner Kids, and therefore goth or punk in someway.

They had elecktro-industrial Wednesday probably as the "last stand" for goth people, pushed all the way down to just one night a week, and the preppy people took that over too so now Luna is pretty much dead to me and I'll never go there again. I'll take my money to a reputable club that doesn't totally sell out just to make a few extra bucks.

Oh, I see. Maybe you' re right about that. I moved out of state for a few years & came back about a year ago. I would go there when it was groove room & remember it being "alternative." I like alot of different clubs. I even go to woody's sometimes. I go to Luna and City just about every Saturday. I won't be going to City this week because I don't feel like paying higher cover & having to see a stupid show. If you ask me-that's what I call a sell out. There is goth people at Luna still. And yes, there are yuppies, too. and Punkers & emo kids... It makes my night much more interesting & it's packed. Luna is a "reputable" club. You won't see them throwing on a so called sex show & charging high priced cover.

I am not trying to start a arguement. I come here to find out whats going on. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I just don't agree with a couple of people on here who always say Negative about Luna.

Hear that!

but

I got a email from Nick saying, "tuesdays & wednesdays are. These nights were way to so slow. The busy nights (thursday-Saturday) have been supporting Tuesdays & wednesdays for a long time. Now the bar can keep that money for profit & try something new evuntually on the closed nights."

Fact of matter or not. Now that Volt and Kat are no longer there {It does suck super ball (Cuz City does as well at times too) and breaks my heart, Cuz I love Wendsday when my kids are in FL}. Will not mean music will die completely off. Its on what ppl show up and request. Even though some stuff will not get played. (But this happens at City as well) It is all on how Michigan is doing. "Economy"

Fuck maybe I'll just go to Gusoline Alle....

I know the feeling! So get this, when I was stuck in ABQ I decided to re-activate my phone. Now, for years I have been running a Straight Talk Mobile Hotspot for wifi instead of paying for actual phone service, because I get more data for 50 bucks on the wifi plan than I would get for the same price for my phone plan, and I don't call anybody very often if ever, so it only made sense. Well while I was in ABQ I got desperate and decided I needed to make some phone calls so I walked down to Walmart to get a  45 dollar plan for my phone, only to realize that I had to walk back to walmart again (4 miles one way) to get a new Sim card, because the one I had was too old, apparently...  Anyway, literally the second I reactivate my phone - I got a phone call from a frickin' debt collector!  I mean it was so instantaneous that I assimed it was Straight Talk calling to confirm my activation or something - instead it was somebody with a foreign accent that I could barely understand, asking for whoever the person was that previously had the phone number I had just been assigned. . . I was so irritated with this fact.    And yeah now I'm getting multiple calls, daily, from everybody and their brother, looking for whoever the person was that used to have this number.  Wells Fargo, AT&T, etc etc.    I think there needs to be some better way of doing this. Recycling phone numbers as fast as we do this day & age isn't working out very well. 🤷

I have no idea why I'm even on all of these call lists that are on Robo-Dial by A.I.  One is a female voice and the other is a male voice and all they did was change the name that they give you.  I did get put through to a few live people to try to ask them to remove me from their list, but they, the telemarketer, hung up on me.   It's like I'm living "Telemarketers Revenge" for all the years of people handing up on them.   I always spoke with the telemarketer and then wished them a good day before hanging up.  And this is what I get for all of my decades of kindness.  I don't think I deserve this, but the World has lost a lot of the niceties that it used to have when I was growing up.  And no...COVID did not cause this.  I'm also getting tired of that excuse.  Its been 6 years!  People felt they were given the Green Light to be anti-social and rude to your face and now it is part of society just like everything else Mainstream adopts and considers it a cultural add-on.   I just hope I can survive this onslaught of calls blowing up my phone until it dies down.  Else, I will place a block on my number and only allow calls from family, friends and medical associated with my job.

This is crazy.   I had to mute my phone because I am getting 50+ calls a day regarding Life Insurance, Medical Insurance, Burial Benefits, a Senior Food Expense Card, a Senior Social Security monthly reimbursement benefit, etc., and I don't qualify for any of it.  I don't even meet the age requirement.   At current, I have 53 missed calls and 38 of them were from yesterday.
