Michigan Drivers

Persoanlly have noticed a huge difference since they stopped the written portion of the exam and think it should be put back in, as no one seems to know the rules of even a simple 4way stop sign let alone those european round abouts.

Personally i think people just don't pay attention or care. A lot of people just don't think they have to obey the traffic laws and will do crazy stuff because they think its okay. People say seniors are the worst. I work with seniors and i admit a lot of them should not be driving any more but it isn't them that ifear on the road. I saw a dude reading while driving today. He had his kids in the car too. Also i see people eating and putting on makeup or looking through their purse while they drive. A person can know and pass the written test but that doesn't mean they won't be a shmuck on the road and cut you off or tail gate you. I see things sometime and i wonder "where are the cops that guy could have just killed someone?" I think it is inconsiderate to drive like a maniac or not pay attention while you drive . That is how you kill someone.

Come out to California and you will see the definition of crazy driving. Turn signals seem to be a lost art here. I have been in almost three accidents since being out here. That's not the biggest threat, my biggest quirk is that they go faster in the slower lane and don't even bother to look by getting infront of you. And traffic fucking sucks here. I'll take Michigan driving, at least they may drive crazier but they know how to look good doing it.

Yeah, no kidding! Every time I put a blinker on I got a "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" look. I think we drive faster here, but crazier, nah, you guys win.

Of course, while I haven't been there myself in 15 years, I've heard Florida is the worst.

Trust me, as a truck driver, I see it multiple times a day. I don't even get to give much space between me and the other vehicle I am passing before a 4 wheeler gets in that slow lane and passes me anyway. I don't think they realize that we have a much different view in our mirrors than they do, so it takes us a little more distance to pass someone so we don't cut someone off. Personally, I think there should be more education at least for people driving around commercial vehicles. We are under different rules and none of those are respected when we get out there. If they policed more on bad driving, they could make a killing on money.

My little bit of experience driving in florida (a weeklong visit a few years ago)---people drive crazy there too, but their roads are weird! The merge lanes, for instance..... when a lane ends, there's no sign. Its printed on the pavement, and they give you *maybe* a 3 or 4 carlength warning!

Iv said that for years that befor they hand someone a Drivers Lic. that they should have to take a class on how to drive with semi's, the whole sign on the back of the truck ( this veh. makes wide turns) means something.......... A trucker can be your best buddy or your worst nightmare..... I know Iv had a few save my ass.....

HEHEHE I lived in Florida for 2 years, their driving is deffently wierd, they dont have turn lanes like michigan, theirs these open areas in the middle of the grassy medians where cars going either way can just hop in and turn around..... LOL. and they do drive pretty fast. hit and runs are the thing down their....

Michigan definately has its fair share of apathetic moronic drivers,IMO I think this state will give anyone a license, its all about money

Today I had this asshole trying to drive less than a foot behind me so I gave him the "brake test"

then the idiot got over and cut off two other people,so I called 911 to get ahold of the state police, then gave them the make and model, and the plate number,I hope I ruined his day,LOL!!and I will not hesitate to do this again,I have seen enough shit happen, and a few close friends, and one relative die because of these Pieces of S%$# on the road.

Michigan drivers suck, but you haven't seen anything until you've driven in Florida. People there were literally such bad drivers that I would stay home even when I didn't have a single thing to eat in the house. I feared for my life so much that I would choose starvation over the risk of dying.

I'm going to play devil's advocate with the truck thing. On highway's... they drive like assholes. Not all... but most. I can't count the number of times I've been cut off by them. And it's always the same... they wait until the last possible second before I overtake them in the passing lane and then they pull out. You can't tell me it's an accident. It's deliberate, it's dangerous and if I had a rock to throw at them, I would. I've seen many more drive so recklessly, if I was a cop, I'd throw them in jail. If they want respect and understanding from motorists, they better learn how to give it.

I hear you there Marc as I have personally experienced that while driving my own truck. And I think those kinds of truck drivers drive their personal vehicle the same way, which brings them back to aggressive 4 wheelers lol. It works both sides as I have had some good natured people in 4 wheelers signal me to come over and I reward them with a thanks by signaling back. I do my best to work with the 4 wheelers but some days, even in my own personal vehicle, I have seen way more aggressive driving by people driving and going 3 and sometimes 4 lanes over without a turn signal just to get to an exit ahead of everyone else.

Here is an example of what happened to me twice in one month:

First time in the month of December happened right there on Davison at the corner of McNichols on a Friday near rush hour around 4:30pm. There are 3 lanes, left, right, and a right turn lane that goes onto Davison. I was in the regular right lane behind another car at a red light. I noticed that a vehicle with its hazards are on up ahead, so when the light turns green I will start signaling and veering to my left. Well, the light turns green and I just start moving and I hear and feel this big crunch. I think, WTF! and look over to my right and can't see much until this small black grand am pulls back into a gas station. Fucker came from the gas station on my blind side and tried to get in front of me at the light. All I could see was dash and window straight across and being near dark, it didn't help. I parked the truck off to the side and was mad actually cause this fucker caused me to have to report an accident. But I decided it was best to ask first if they were alright since it would be the better thing to do outright. I get out, and an old couple with a mouthy granddaughter get out and immediately start bitching at me. So much for being nice! They try saying that I veered to the right on them and smashed into them. The old man I notice right away has an extreme lazy eye, so I figure Hell, that is what happened, the guy can't see straight! So after a short arguement, I tell them that we will bring the police into this and let him sort it out. The old man right away says you know what, nevermind. At that time I knew he didnt have insurance. But I tell him nope, you did damage to the bumper of my truck. So I went back to the truck and called the police, and called the company to tell them what happened. During this time they take off, so it becomes a hit and run. Police were called again and the incident is sped up because of this. Cop does a report which is nothing new to him.

2nd incident happened the same way except I was in the left lane waiting to go forward across Southfield from 7 mile and head south on Southfield. It was a Friday and around 5pm when a brand new Dodge Magnum was crushed in the front end. Took the bumper completely off and the lights were dangling. This time it was a young woman and her bf and she had a kid or two in the back. So I start thinking what kind of prick does something like that on a blind side with kids in the back? Again, someone with no car insurance with a BRAND NEW car and taking chances. She ended up being a hit and run as well after talking to her and telling her to wait because the last people who did this took off and now had a hit and run on their record. This time I took down the license plate before she took off so that I had proof. She even left her bumper behind which was evidence.

This is why I say there should be more education being around big vehicles, because we have A LOT of blind spots. I will not see you in a low profile car on my right side near my front fender and door. You can imagine how pissed I was when that happened twice in one month. Made me think that others will think that I am the one driving bad when I didn't do anything but move forward a few feet in my own lane.

I was at a party not to long ago and overheard two of my good pals bragging about how good they are at texting and driving at the same time.

Man, I wanted to strangle them.

Reaper, I feel awful that you've had such experiences. It's good to hear it straight from a trucker, though -- people certainly don't understand what it's like driving a truck until they've driven one.

Trucks or cars... There's a lot of bad drivers out there. Bad attitudes towards everyone else, not nearly enough training, especially in the stuff that matters most - On the road, car control skills. It shouldn't be as easy as it is to get a license.

The downright stupid questions on the written test always got me.

You pull up to a STOP sign and see a blind man crossing the intersection while being led by a seeing-eye dog. What do you do?

a. Keep going through the intersection.

b. Honk at them until they clear the path for you.

c. Stop and wait for them to cross the street, then proceed.

d. Swerve around them without stopping.

I'm gonna go with B because that's the brilliant thing to do, right?? LOL

The "ASS-UME" driver is the one you really have to worry about

I just had one yesterday, like every day, who cut me off to go 100 feet to the exit ramp. Problem is, there was no one in sight behind me. So why do that and take the chance that I will hit you? I am driving a flammable liquids load and I get cut off? Its all just plain out stupid. I bet if you video taped it, sent it to police and they came to that person to watch it, they would not believe it.
