After pondering it for a few, probably was intended (as it was in Nazi Germany) to have a bit of an "insulting" effect on what is (presumably) a largely male population.

Not to say that i think there is anything particularly insulting about the color pink, but i know many males would view it as such.

Now why they used the color purple to identify Jehovah's Witnesses (true also) im not sure hah.

I'm not saying I disbelieve your self-proclaimations, I'm just saying that I'd rather you proved this to me (preferably off-line -- remember, anybody can pretty much say anything about anything, especially themselves, on-line) before I take your statement to heart. EVERYBODY fancies themselves, to some degree, as "expierenced", but the quesion remains of how much wisdom was actually gained and retained from said expierences.

I have stated many times in conversation that america is fast becoming the very country we escaped from. Europe enjoys more freedom than we do at this point. Unless it was a joke of some sort (I unfortunately cannot find the link, but I SWEAR I was shown this not long ago...), the US government is in the process of banning ANYTHING viewed as sexually enticing. This means porn, suggestive music, suggestive scenes in movies, etc. Does anyone find it interesting to note that as early as 1995 Blockbuster had its own "cutting room" to make R-rated movies in its inventory more "family friendly"? Wal-Mart has, since the mid-eighties censored the music that is sold in their stores. This was before record companies started offering the "Clean / Explicit version" choices. I will never forget the last time I bought a piece of music from Wal-Mart. I bouthg Anthrax "Attack of the Killer B's", and Jackyl's self titled. Both on cassette. The Jackyl cassette was missing the last song on the track listing ("She Loves My Cock"). But even worse, the Anthrax album had all these retarded noises (squeaks, springs [boing!], scratches, etc...) in place of the foul words. Both of these had an identical sticker placed on the front of the cassette that said "Sterilized For Your Listening Enjoyment".

Well, the stores are a different thing. Stores can sell or not sell anything they want, as long as the business is privately owned. If it hits the stocks, it becomes a "public company" and should thus comply with the public's demands.

Of course, the FCC is a pointless waste of tax-money that could be used to fund things like schools and museums. When speech and expression start getting censored, so do rights. While it is within Wal-Mart's right to speech and expression to censor products sold in their stores, the FCC exists to contradict the First Amendment by being a government-funded institution of censorship.

There is an inherent paradox with the simple version of "freedom of speech/expression" in that , theres the freedom of the individual, and that freedom, conflicts , very often by intersecting (and abridging) others freedoms in expected and often unexpected ways. How is freedom of speech fairly prescribed? Surely not by town hall meetings and by Joe-Blow-Vigilante. That's how ya get lynch mobs and book burnings. (Despite current modern American policies faults we are for the most part , far better off now than we have ever been)

Without some sort of intermediary to at least attempt to sort that intersection out, by that intermediary, there would be no civilization. No modern society exists without such "expression watchdog" agencies, regardless of how big-brother that sounds. Actually no society modern or historical at all that i know of even primitive tribal societies have such things in various forms.

The only place we have anything even approaching true "freedom of expression" is in our dreams (day or otherwise). :confused

You may have a point here -- but then again, why merely mimic the past when society can strive to learn from the past and make better? We should have, at this point in time, learned from the mistakes of letting government "just stop arguing" with social conservative nut-bars and let them have their way. Prohibition failed. Restricting the press, especially now with the advent of the Internet, fails -- hell, even with laws very explicitly forbidding it, people who want kiddie-porn badly enough will, and have, obtained it long before the Internet came about.

On the kiddie-porn example, (whoo-hoo! back on-topic!), this is one of those rare exceptions that just about everybody, except perpetrators of said market, will agree that restricting it is ultimately for the better. Now, to say this is on-par with consentual gay sex or hell, even cases of statuatory rape with only a one or two year age-difference, is absolutely ridiculous.

And that's what this proposal will be doing.

Allot of so called sex offenders are just young 20 something guys that were going with a girl of say....16....not much of an age difference really, and somehow piss off her parents. I don't think they deserve to be punished by driving around with the same lisence plate say...a convicted child molester has. Do they do it by the severity of the crime?
