Bernadette Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Dog Cloning Did anyone see this, in NY Times or otherwise? A company has figured out how to clone dogs => BioArts Int'l This BioArts International is holding an auction, and the 5 highest bidders will each get to clone one dog for that amount. + Is this Crazy or not ? + Would you do it to have a lasting legacy from your pet? Is this animal so special you want more almost just like it? + What about all the unadopted dogs/cats/etc in shelters and such already? As you can imagine -- this brings up a WHOLE plethora of questions and possible issues -- scientific, ethical, on and on. Talk to me..
Homicidalheathen Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Yep. Personally I think this is the first step towards the 'future' of reproduction. SS cards. National ID numbers. But if you still have babies at home you could possibly breed an army. I didn't get an SS number until I was 12. My kids got one as babies. Next the chip...then cloning. COMPLETE control. Our reproductive freedom scares the hell outta big bro... First dogs, next people.
sass_in_the_pants Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 But if you still have babies at home you could possibly breed an army. Woot! And just think, with ladies like you and me who push em out two at a time, we can make armies twice as fast. It's all about efficiency. What do I think about cloning dogs? I think people are WAY too attached to their damn dogs. And all the animals that have been cloned so far have been totally jacked up.
Homicidalheathen Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Even if I were the richest woman in the world... Good ol fashion baby makin is the way to go and.... I would rather donate to a charity. Even a animal one. But not cloning.
hunhee Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I've heard of this a while ago. I knew that it was very close in production. People are fucking bat ass nutty about their pets. I am somewhat a bit like that. I could see really rich people doing this on a more regular basis. I wouldn't do it, because variety is the spice of life.. and haven't we learned anything from Jurassic Park? come on!!! Cloning is not a good idea, when you fuck with something that probably shouldn't be fucked with.. there are repercussions... Although on a completely scientific level.. HOLY SHIT ASS FUCKING COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're playing God!!! ALSO, human cloning isn't far away. I believe they will find more ethical/unethical issues when it comes to that..
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Cloning sets off every "wrong" bell in my head.
hunhee Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Cloning sets off every "wrong" bell in my head. That's what I meant by my statement when I said "we're playing god" it doesn't settle well with me. I may not believe in the "creator" but.. I still have a sense of what's "natural" and "unnatural" and this sets off bad vibes for me too. Although, some have said that about flying.. I STILL have an unnatural unright feeling about flight. I can't see any good coming from cloning a complete individual.. *Shivers*
