I have a Bachlor of Music. I started out life wanting to be a band director. That was in the 70's when they were cutting out entire music programs because music was considered "fluff" and school districts were broke. so after waiting on tables, being a cook, a restaurant manager, an office worker, store clerk, advertising photographer, photolayout coordinator, free lance layout artist, costumer designer/seamstress, oh and occasional musician, (I also took computer programming courses in college but that's another story) I decieded to focus on teaching again but was told, in the 80's, that due to the flood of teachers I had "no hope" of getting a job in music and my only chances were in math, science or special ed. Well, after adding majors in integrated science amd math then minors in biology and physics, I am teaching. (Don't go into teaching(!) there is still a fffllloooood of teachers in Michigan.) I see now that I probably should have gone into medicine, but girls were discouraged from doing anything of the sort in those days and I thought I was too stupid. I'm thinking of getiing my masters in mathematics and physics but I'm focusing on retirement now. Maybe I'll just paint and write music... humm I'd think a requiem would be nice but I've always wanted to study archeology too, hummm. :p

'ey...I thought we were supposed to start a badass industrial side project.

Also, and you used to tell me this when I was a little kid, I think you're leaving out ONE very important profession...

Weren't you also a clown for the singing telegram company back in the day when there was still a such thing as telegrams?

Or was that the same kinda thing you told me along the lines of "Santa is real" (which I'm STILL mad about )?

Is it true or were you bullshitting?

I have a Ph.D in Mistake Making. Yes it's helped me in the career of life. If I take the effort to remember my past mistakes in the first place, and I don't 5 times out of 10. Blargh!

Right now they are transferring to OU and will be living in the house I am to inherit

Its working out good for them. I don't hope for much more. As women I just want them to be able to support themselves without the help of a man...ever.

And that takes a 4 yr these days.

I have a degree in nursing, it's very useful. :doc: I am very happy with the degree choice I made, it allows me to have a job I enjoy, provide for my family and gives me a sense of job security. I am a lucky woman. Eventually, I might go back to pursue my masters if I decide to become an anesthetist or physician's assistant, but it's not feasible right now. The only thing else I would like to do is explore different creative areas, but that would be more for fun.

Really? What kind of degree? Its just I am currently considering a 2+2 program ( in the nursing field I'm sure you know what it is) and well I just don't know if I want to go to U of M, I keep telling myself perhaps I can just go back when I want for 2 more years.

However I am almost done with AS in applied science and I have to make up my mind soon. I just thought I would ask another nurse their opinion.

I have an Associates degree and make the same money doing the same job as those with a bachelors. The only thing about a bachelor's is you need one to do case management or management type jobs, not for patient care jobs. It just depends what you want to do. Even if you want to get your master's, some schools now have a RN to MSN track, you no longer have to go BSN to MSN, but they have that too. I work in critical care focusing on cardiac patients. We get the worst of the worst, no where more to go from us, so as far as acuity, you can do it all with an ADN. Another thing to consider is clinical wait time. The wait is getting so long at some schools that offer ADN that it might not actually be that much longer to get your BSN, just more schooling and less waiting. I'm not sure if this is helpful at all, but hopefully. Feel free to PM me with whatever questions you have.

Good Luck!

A.A.S. in Computer Science - Programming. I use the logic and some of the programming language I learned in my daily job duties (IT Specialist), but really the OTJ training has proven the most useful. I loved programming, but do not want to do that for 8+ hours a day. I do want to try and get into web programming/development at work, though. We'll see.

Hopefully, fall of 09 I will be going back for my B.S. Have to have the B.S. to get GS13 and up positions. So far, looks like CMU has the degree and curriculum I want.

BA in fiction writing. It's not particularly useful, but I like having the degree.

I started out as an English major, then I became a Classica (ancient Greece and ancient Rome) major. Later, I decided to major in Eastern European studies. Then I ended up as a Social Sciences major. Yeah, I had a tough time making up my mind.

I have a degree in Industrial Design with concentrations in toy design and special effects. Had a successful career until the big three started farming out their design work to third world countries. Been stuck working in factories for the last 6 or 7 years...
