Enishi Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Though there are certain types of people and groups which I dislike, I try to avoid hating anyone. I think there is a certain degree of balance which must always be present. Some negative elements can't really be removed without also hurting certain good elements.
know_buddy_kares Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 The huge rise in left wing ideas is going to fix everything.. for a time anyway. History repeats as it always does. The left wing whack jobs rise in numbers.. take over various governments... then people start getting stuffed into ovens and mass graves for "the good of the people" or some other wishy washy bullshit propaganda. Eventually, all the people in the middle, lead by the people on the right will rise up and kill/arrest all the left wing wackos that were killing the populace off.. Things will be good for while... the the left will start to rise again... history books and definitions will change to somehow paint the last generation of Left wing wackos as being Right wingers... "They were not really socialists, they just put that word in their name." Then the cycle starts again... I just hope I die a nice natual death before the curernt generation of Left wing wackos start stuffing people in ovens for beleiving in God. wow, you made your self sound just as bad as the people you're trying to describe... your grape coolaid is just as dumb as my tin foil hat.

SaGa Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 project suburbia(i call it a project cause its only 80 years old) is a failure more then a success, cheap oil it was possible, except psychologically isolating. now commodites are expensive and no one could afford to commute. so society is a failure in the us, citys are slums, but give it time and it will reverse where the suburbs are full of emty houses and squaters
Scales Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I wouldn't try to argue that society has improved vastly as time has went on. Then as hopeful as I can be sometimes, I am still a cynical critic of humanity and my view of society is a joke; the influences that give me my own jaded opinion stop me from being a complete nihilist. But when times are short on humor it's always easy living in the exercise of irony. Widespread information was made widespread through capitalization, which exists out of money, creating strong presences of social classes which allow the classes higher on the scale of financial gain to control the spread of information along with the culture that circles around it: culture travels with the information it surrounds like an environment for information just as there are different areas which living things adapt to live in. Respect is the only currency since all currency, morality, and other societal standards are dedicated around a unified respect within the effort of each individual. Since knowledge and culture is still ultimately respected based on class, the collective societies of the world suffer: not *all* knowledge and the culture surrounding knowledge is based on higher social classes; culture in general could include moral culture which thrives in lower classes but is nowhere near as equivalent in higher social classes. Furthermore I believe selectivity in sharing information has reflected back onto each society which does so because there is substantial evidence in the humanization of society. Some examples of humanization of society include the forming of years of theistic religions out of fear of death, and corporations within society which have the rights of a citizen in order to operate. So with the idea that each society is based on the human being it will have the same faults as the human beings within: the lack of balance in the spread of information and culture between all people creates intolerance and ignorance within all of our important systems. I'm not going to turn this into an novel-length essay but there's the jist of my outlook.
Ice Queen (1) Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Greed, corruption, decay of morality The United States Way= Let's watch movies, play video games, drink, buy fancy stuff we can't afford, read gossip mags, all as some sort of escapism, in an effort to be blind to what is actually going on in the world and therefore, not have to deal with it. Luckily, there are exceptions.
jynxxxedangel Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I don't know why, but I think this Chinese parable is very relevant to this topic. I try to keep this one in mind, always: A man, in a rowboat, was rowing upriver on his way home. Knowing that a self-powered upriver-bound vessel had the right-of-way he was happily oblivious to what was behind him as he rowed away. Suddenly, he was bumped. As he whirled around he saw that it was a man in another rowboat coming downriver and not paying attention. He gave the man a loud and serious scolding for his ineptitude and the man appologized as he drifted away without further confrontation. The man went on rowing for some time when, suddenly, he was bumped again. He whirled around angrily, ready to issue another scolding, and saw that it was just an empty boat that had come loose of its moorings. He pushed it away and continued to row home. As he rowed home peacfully he thought about what had happened and vowed that, from that day forward, he would treat other people as well as an empty boat.
Fin Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I don't know why, but I think this Chinese parable is very relevant to this topic. I try to keep this one in mind, always I very much like that parable. I've been bumped in a boat before. But it wasn't in a rowboat, it was in a kayak. And it wasn't in China, it was in Monterey. And it wasn't another boat, it was a white shark. (don't worry, she wasn't trying to hurt me. It was just a "love tap" )
