Hellion Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Just a little info on the oil industry for those who might not know http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/cftc_probe_wsj_dc
ttogreh Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 You know what's fucked up? Eight cents of electricity can propel an electric car four or five miles, and every house in North America has electrical service. It is estimated that Algae derived biodiesel costs about eighty dollars a barrel. Eighty dollars / 44 gallons = 1 dollar eighty two cents a gallon. We use oil because we WANT to, not because it is the most economical.

ttogreh Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Ah yes, when the point is irrefutable, use logical fallacies. Good luck with that.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Ah yes, when the point is irrefutable, use logical fallacies. Good luck with that. Look...the ONLY important thing is the fact that the price of the barrel is starting to go down....which means Gas prices will start to drop and MAYBE we'll all be a little less edgy. you need to STOP looking at things that are way off possabilities....because the majority of humans won't accept some stupid sounding ideas, no matter how good they may be, over stuff we already understand....just not gonna happen....let a Black Guy and Woman become president (NOT HILLARY) before you try selling "sea-scum" fuel as a reliable idea....oh..and your point MAY be irrefutable.....but acceptable practicality isn't something it holds to. and...once again...NEITHER of those are very good economy boosters.
ttogreh Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 We send 400 billion dollars a year out of the economy to foreign governments and multinational corporations for imported petroleum. We have two hundred years worth of coal, and the technology to convert every drop of flue gas into liquid fuel. Stop it. I will use facts. You will call my facts stupid, or stupid sounding. You will assert that my facts won't boost the economy. I will show in twenty words or less how they will boost the economy quite nicely. Stop it. I know what I am doing.
know_buddy_kares Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 sigh... it's the apathy of most that keep things in the state it is. Look it's like this... back then, oil was cheap and easy to pump out of the ground, it took one barrels worth of oil in energy to pump like maybe over 30 barrels... and as these reserves continue to get pumped... that ratio goes down. As the ratio goes down, the prices go up as it gets more expensive to pump. the prices are not going to go down at all. That's the reason for the whole invasion of iraq, oil, cheap and easy oil to keep the oil companies in power a bit longer. This is also one of the bigger reasons why the american dollar is doing so crappy. thanks to changing our currency from being based on gold in fort knox, it turned into investments and now is based on oil.. We need other energy resources and fast, many are available. Germany over here has awsome windmills that help them. It's the refusual to change or adapt to change. And as long as america screams no to getting weaned off the oil bottle, we're digging ourselves deeper in a pit. Because eventually, there's going to be no more oil for us to nurse on.. and what happens when the baby doesn't get it's bottle? That's right... a huge fucking temper tantrum... before it eventually accepts an alternative to the bottle.

Stop telling you what will have the best chance of working? I never told you NOT to use facts.....but having facts....and having facts that the public will accept as a viable solution that sounds good....are two different things. and you NEVER showed jack on how any of that will be economy boosters...all you do is talk about figures on what the charts show NOW...NOT what the charts WILL show in the future should the electric car and algae based bio-fuels come into large scale production. MY concern isn't just economics...but have you considered what Algae-based bio-fuels will do to the food chain on a large scale?? I mean...it's not like the stuff is NEVER-ENDING....nothing is....and I'm gonna GUESS that it would take a large amount of Algae to make the fuel it would take to run all the vehicles in NYC, much less anywhere else. Hell...couple hundred years ago, we thought Whales were a never-ending source of cosmetics and oil...and came close to wiping them to extinction. Sure...we could do Algae Farms...but there goes much of our coast lines....I would like to NOT have to dig into the ocean anymore then what we already have too. The price of electricity that it takes to run an electric car...NOW...is impressive...but if the electric car becomes a major thing, do you honestly thing that the price of Electric won't go up??...it would be a way for them to make more money...hell...I would...I think we all would...or a VERY LARGE majority of us would. What about Hydrogen cells? I don't remember you mentioning those. oh...and if "Stop it. I know what I am doing" doesn't sound childish and Arrogent....then I am Destro, Arms Dealer to COBRA!!!!!
ttogreh Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 The... algae... comes... from... tanks... connected... to... the... flues... of... coal-fired... power... plants. No... algae... is... removed... from... the... biosphere. I am not arrogant. As Muhammad Ali said, "if you can do it, it's not bragging".

I'm gonna mark this as offensive...cuz you didn't express earlier how this was done.. 2. If you HONESTLY think that ALL of the algae needed to run OUR country alone will come from JUST that....well...I have some choice phrases that I won't repeat...cuz there are sensitive ppl around. 3. Typing....like...this....with....dots....between....every....single...word....is ...way...beyond...arrogant....and....you...CAN'T....make....the....fuel....yourself.... so.....you...have...no....right....to....brag....about....things....you....can't.....do. and ttogreh....before...I been nice....but you EVER reply to anything anyone says again with that "dot" crap between every word, when you failed to explain the process before.....like we're all retarded and your the ONLY person with a brain.....and your gonna see why I got the nickname of "EVIL"....k?....I don't mind you dis-agreeing with me...hell...we can't all have the same ideas....but what you did above is just pitiful and annoying....and I'm sure everyone else on here will agree with me

Producing biodiesel from algae has been touted as the most efficient way to make biodiesel fuel. The advantage being that the land requirement for growing the biodiesel is very small. Independent studies have demonstrated that algae is capable of producing 30 times more oil per acre than the current crops now utilized for the production of biofuels. Algae biofuel contains no sulfur, is non-toxic and highly biodegradable. Some species of algae are ideally suited to biodiesel production due to their high oil content, in excess of 50%, and extremely rapid growth rates. Algae BioFuels, a subsidiary of PetroSun Drilling, will be engaged in the research and development of algae cultivation as an energy source in the production of biodiesel. The R&D and production facilities for Algae BioFuels will be based in Arizona and Australia. ..For crying out loud...This info was ALREADY SHARED......WIKIPEDIA...seems to back it up..... GFP.....do you work for the oil company? (edit fo' tka-tka-difficulties)

GFP.....do you work for the oil company? (edit fo' tka-tka-difficulties) I refuse to respond to the first line, though I AM highly dis-appointed that you have deemed it viable to follow his dis-respective, rude, and childish performance, though that is neither here nor there. and AS a business man....I understand business men....and both large, and small, business's will do what they can to get the most out of everything...because if they don't, then they aren't very good business's. It's part of surviving as a business and getting the most out of it that you can....if you don't, or don't care too....then you are better off not as a business, but a "non-profit organization".....just because you don't like the facts don't make them facts....I don't like Gravity....or the fact that the price of gas effects my business like it does....but their both there as facts. I understand that that Electric cars and Algae based Bio-fuels are possiable as viable future sources of fuel....but it doesn't change the facts that A: the algea gleaned from those tanks will not be enough to support OUR driving, much less anyone else's driving, and B: the fact that the price for Electricity WILL go up should electric cars become a MAJOR alternative. It's inevitable. What do you want me to do?....walk around with wool over my eyes and repeat the line "Business's don't care about money" and carry a rattle??...cuz thats not gonna happen....Algae isn't massively viable.....too much of it will need to be produced properly, and companies WILL turn to the oceans to get it....thats another inevitability...because it's a greater source of it...and their gonna compete against each other....and the guy with the most sources is the guy that can produce the most product, and make the most money. Thats simple business...we all learn about it in social studies....it's part of what we call "supply and demand". We demand...they supply...the more they can supply, the more money they make.

It's inevitable. I am advocating stepping it up, (the research)...into these fields... A: There are allot of smokestacks..... A1:Building, Maintaining, & Selling, these systems will be economically stimulating...THE WORLD OVER. A2:It is "an" alternative not "thee" alternative...(anytime you make a society dependent on 1 source; it is defined as a monopoly of power, in example: Many religions state an initiate must report to their priest who then talks to GOD...) Leading us to B...how do we keep it from becoming an electrical monopoly...?
Rev.Reverence Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 ... Solar panels on every roof in America? Oh...and how will we make so many solar panels? Would that entail striking up NEW businesses? Expanding current workforces? Excuse me, if I am incorrect...but I seem to think that would improve the economy...
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Oh...and how will we make so many solar panels? Would that entail striking up NEW businesses? Expanding current workforces? Excuse me, if I am incorrect...but I seem to think that would improve the economy... lol...funny...but we weren't originally talking about alternative energy sources....we were talking about alternative fuels....thats a specific branch of the tree. If we were talking about Alt energy sources themselves....there are MANY ways to do that....Hydro, wind, solar....many, many, many ways....
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Would we not have to have the Tech to make solar panels that didn't cost more to make in energy than they will ever generate? The Chinese have one, but they wont sell the tech to anyone else.
Rev.Reverence Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Really Gaf? Do you have an article or some such manner of communicating this "fact" to us? I found these specs in about 1.5 minutes..maybe less. $28.99 Detailed Description Power Up BSP1-12, 1 Watt 12V, PV Module Specifications See data sheet for full details Typical Electrical Characteristics Maximum Power (Pmax) 1W Voltage at Pmax (Vmp) 16.7V Current at Pmax (Imp) 0.075A Short-circuit current (Isc) 0.09A Open-circuit voltage (Voc) 21.0V Mechanical Characteristics Dimensions 3.88" x 9.38" x 0.63" Weight 1.04 lbs

If we were talking about Alt energy sources themselves....there are MANY ways to do that....Hydro, wind, solar....many, many, many ways.... Then we NEED to grow algae on EVERY smokestack!
