Black Sunday9 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Can someone tell me why I should get a 64 bit processor? What are the advantages? I seem to recall that Soulrev said he had one. Thanks.
Scary Guy Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Right now, there are no advantages yet. Hell we're not even taking full advantage of 32 bit processors. The only good thing is that you have the ability to run 64 bit applications. Right now there aren't many that exist since it's still relatively new. Personally I'd go with a multi processing system (or multi core chip) before I'd go 64 bit. You don't really need it yet so just hold off.

The_Dark Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Pretty much all CPU's.. even the dual cores, will be 64bit by the end of the year. I like my 64bit cpu. I like fast and my pc is that plus.
Soulrev Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Until Windows XP Pro 64 came out there wasn't much use for 64 bit processors but now.. Oh man.. Lots of possibilities, though I hear some have issues with XP Pro 64bit edition so I wouldn't run and upgrade right away.. All it is, is it's becoming the new format.. Kind of like PCI Express. Not really better, per say, but it's the new standard
