What is Jihad?

It's mentioned in the Quran many many times... a basic part of the Muslim faith...

It seems that some US History books are defining it as a peacefull inner struggle...

Yet, for 1400 years the Quran has defined it as a militant struggle against unbelievers...

So, what is it to you?

Jihad, like most things regarding religion, is different things to different people. To militant extremists, it is an excuse. To ignorant insulated folks, it is a threat. To scholars of history, it is a holy war, or an excuse, or a threat.

To the majority of the 1.63 BILLION Muslims on this planet, it is a peaceful internal struggle.

Simply put, jihad is what you WANT it to be.

FOR THE RECORD...I do not just clip Wica-pedia! It is merely a reference tool, and quite regularly RIGHT ON!

The four major categories of jihad that are recognized are Jihad against one's own self (Jihad al-Nafs), Jihad of the tongue (Jihad al-lisan), Jihad of the hand (Jihad al-yad), and Jihad of the sword (Jihad as-sayf).[5]

Islamic jurisprudence focuses on regulating the conditions and practice of Jihad as-sayf, the only form of warfare permissible under Islamic law, and thus the term Jihad is usually used in fiqh manuals in reference to military combat.

Jihad IS ALL the things listed in posts above.
