I've read stories of people stealing gas too. From cars. From stations... etc.

I'm glad I have room in my garage to park my car.

My old Cutlass had a lockable gas cap. Damn, I really miss that awesome car. Too bad my current gas guzzler doesn't have any sweet features like that.

This article was about some gas station owners rigging up the gas pumps (weights and measures) to dispence less gas,

very highly illegal in Mi,which can result in in their business being shut down.if you look on any gas pump when you fill up,you will see the seal that has the weights and measures info on it.

It did happen here, or at least something very similiar. I believe it was a gas station up on Hall Rd. and when law enforcement caught onto it the judge made the owner give out free gas, I believe. Or maybe discounted gas. I can't remember the details exactly, it was last year.

Lockable gas caps cost about $10 at any autoparts store.

I would laugh if someone tried drilling a gas tank, the explosion and let alone no car payments would make my day,and knowing that there is one less asshole thief on the streets, would be the icing on the cake,LOL!!

Lets see if some idiot would try drilling a propane tank, someone's bound to do it.

actually lets see if someone id stupid enough to drill a hole in the diesel tanks of this truck

lets just hope its far away.

Tank drilling and punching is extremely common. The danger is myth.

I have punched or drilled every tank I own, and what happens? Nothing but draining gas.

I have even shot tanks and again, nothing.

You could in theory cause a tank to explode if it doesn't have a liquid buffer between your entry point and the vapor. I don't think that there is an idiot stupid enough to formulate the thought of theft and make the hole high enough on the tank.

Remember it is not liquid gas that burns, its the vapor.

it's actually not a myth. Yes it is verrry unlikely to happen. It's still dangerous. Metal to metal contact, such as drilling, creates friction and static electricity. All you need really is one small jerk or whatever to create a spark from heat and/or static electricity. The vapors, given the right room temperature can be very explosive. Remember, different fuels have different minimum and maximum combustion temperatures. It's actually happened to me before with gasoline, i was working on a lawn mower, drilling a new hole for the wheel to fit into the frame, gas had spilled earlier, and i saw the spark catch and ignite to the gas tank. I was able to put it out but it was still unexpected. So yeah just be careful, it's unlikely, but saying it's a myth is just dumb and asking to get hurt.
