Story sais : Hill, 65, has lived in the Shetland Islands on the edge of the Atlantic since 2001, when his boat capsized there during an unsuccessful attempted to circumnavigate Britain. HARDASS!

sass_in_the_pants Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 http://www.sealandgov.org/ ok. NOW I get it...
ttogreh Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Well, the difference between Sealand and Forvik is that Forvik is an actual island, and has a paper trail that affords Hill's claim's legitimacy. Sealand has one UK court case from 1968 in its favor, and has lost several others. Moreover, a sunken ship, which is the HM Roughs that serves as the base of Sealand, is not considered "permanent", so it cannot be thought of as an artificial island in the first place. However, at the same time, the United Kingdom government may have ceded any claims to Sealand forty or so years ago, worrying about potential loss of life and a public relations disaster. It all needs to be worked out in court. I feel that due to the inherent... piratical nature that Sealand was established, regardless of its legality in 1968, The United States, The UK, and the European Union may very well bully the U.N. into revoking any claims whatsoever that Sealand has to sovereignty.
