Thanks again to everyone that takes the time to welcome the new people. I know sometimes it can take a few extra minutes but it really helps foster a feeling of community and friendship.

A special thanks to Miranda who has been working diligently welcoming a TON of people over the last few months.

I just got done PMing several people who have not replied to their welcome posts. Sometimes that helps also if anyone has the energy. Often newbies don't really know to CHECK this forum for a welcome post, a PM often sends them over here and they are encouraged.

There are always the deadbeat posters that never post, but being friendly and welcoming helps a TON to get the "iffy" people to feel more comfortable and active.

as far as the "deadbeat" section, i always wish ppl a happy birthday, whether they have been active or not.. unless it says "banned" under their name, i always wish ppl well. :)

perhaps i should start sending them as PM's?

oh well, thanks, try, for the acknowledgement :)

Thank you Troy. It's really a great way to say Hello, and no problem. I also think it's a really nice touch to welcome a new person, you don't see it many places. I know from previous experiences just how it can be joining a new forum. People need a friendly environment to feel in the proper setting to share their ideas and thoughts.

I'm just trying to keep that feeling going. People are going to appreciate that they won't just seemingly be a new member on DGN, we acknowledge and welcome them. The more people , the better it can be and It's already excellent now so! :)

Generally we just gotta get people talking and "involved" somehow. Usually that means PMs, comments in their profile and welcome posts encouraging them to post on the board and visit us more.

For most people unless they turn it off, they'll get a notification "you have a PM" in their email. I know that wasn't exactly what you meant. Just thought I'd point that out. :)

I usually send the people that aren't active happy birthday PMs (which is what I usually do for everyone) and make new birthday TOPICS for the active people. Inactive people have such a small likelihood of actually seeing a birthday topic that the effort is often wasted unless you do both, make a birthday topic and send them a PM. Regardless of what you do and and all efforts are helpful. :)

What i usually do is TRY when I have energy/time is to PM people that seem like they have not seen their welcome post or birthday post. The more private messsages or comments they get the more "at home" they are going to feel, generally.

Thanks Miranda. :) Just as an aside, if you scroll down a bit to the welcome questions "code" and cut & paste that , it makes everything in color with working links and such in case you were unaware.

Really though, thanks a lot for taking the time.

I wasn't even aware of that option. Thanks :)

If you go to the members link at the top of the board (upper right) and click Members > and sort by "Join Date" "Decending Order" it gives a list of all the newer signups, i go through there periodicly and PM people with a breif welcome message. If they actually reply , i either link them to the exiting welcome thread (if there is one) or create a new one for them.

I'm sorry I keep falling behind. But, I do, every now and then when I get the time, go back and post welcomes to everyone who has responded to their welcome thread...these are what as known as my 'catch up days' haha!!

This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...

Well we were supposed to leave last night, but life has a way of making plans for you. I'm about to get up and get ready to go on our vacation. Had and still have a lot to do.  Not easy to just up and leave a ranch with a lot of animals and things that need taken care of. We even have people here to watch and tend things while we're gone, but still.   I had to change the radiator in my car before we leave - got that done last night. Took a lot more out of me than I thought it would, so by the time I finished I had little energy for anything else. Today I just have a couple more quick things to do on the car, like cleaning it and packing stuff. Couple of minor things to do around the ranch today, as well.   I figure we should be on the road this evening sometime. I'm looking forward to it. We're going to see the wife's side of the family, people I actually like,  in Vegas and AZ. Should only be gone for a few days, maybe a week. Going to the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead and all kinds of stuff in between, so I'm pretty stoked. I LOVE the Southwest.   Wish me luck that my car survives the desert! (Hence new radiator) 🤠👍

Sometimes sleep can be a scary thing.  I passed out so hard at 4:54pm today.  Yesterday wiped me out with rentals, appointments and helping a lost dog get back home.  Fortunately, I found him on Facebook and contacted the owners and he was picked up before nightfall.  But I think I totally overdid it and paid for it today in the middle of handling business.  Thankfully it was some work at home stuff.   I definitely do not like being that kind of tired.  It's like the World could end and I'd wake up afterwards trying to find out what happened.
