for those that don't know, My Grandmother is Roma, and migrated from Italy to Britain just in time for the first round. this kind of shit starting all over again is deeply troubling

I don't know why you would think that of Europe. Europe is extremely segregated. Hence the rioting in France a few years ago, the rise of the Neo-Nazi's in Germany that is going on now, Ehtnic cleansing just a few years ago in Bosnia and some very anti-Muslim laws being passed in the Netherlands...

Wow. That's really, intensely disturbing. I wonder what's going on in Italy that their leaders need a scapegoat like this... the article didn't really say.

And... HH... there is plenty of discrimination in France, in particular against the North African minority who historically hold a position similar to Mexicans here. Europe in general... well, they may be more tolerant of "interracial" relationships on a one-to-one basis, but there is rampant discrimination against ethnic minority communities in a lot of European countries.

In my experience most European folks are always ready to go on for hours about how much more enlightened they are than Americans. Sometimes that's accurate... sometimes not.
