Fin Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Yeah, it's an old game. Very old. But there are still a lot of people who occasionally play it (like me). I'm talking the original Quake ONE now. Not Quake II, Quake III or Quake IV. (My steam-powered antique computer couldn't handle those graphics. ROFL) Anyone else play? If not, any other good video games we should check out?
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Unreal is fun.. but doesn't do well on newer hardware.
SaGa Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 iv been playing it a bit from time to time, found a good repacked version for better quality recently only thing i dont like is that its TOO fast paced. you know a game i wish the source code be relesed so someone can redo it. Magic carpet. that game was sooooo kick ass, never had the chance to play it online but if i did id be hooked
Troy Spiral (13) Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I played Wolfenstein 3D through Quake II up to whatever that last version of DOOM was (I think) pretty extensively. Most all the FPS games sort of blur together in my mind nowadays though in terms of the online aspects I think the last one i played online for any real length of time was one of the versions of UT *ponders*. Some have vehicles , some don't, some have some variation of capture the flag or some such etc etc. I'm sure people that are more hardcore into them feel one is distinct from the other (and they are) but since I'm an armature on the FPS subject they all tend to blur together for me.The online aspects that is. The stand-alone versions of say Max Pane, Serious Sam, No One Lives Forever or say Aliens vs. Predator are very, very different indeed.

Fin Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Unreal is fun.. but doesn't do well on newer hardware. I liked Unreal but it seemed that even a small ping differential cost you greatly if you were the HPB. I also played & really enjoyed the original TUROK for PC. What a great concept! the difference tends to be the weapons, and how fast paced the world is, halo is much slower, compared to red faction or quake. quake 2 seems to be the happy medium. there all the same. but after quake 2 it seemed everyone jumped on the bandwagon. seeing how huge the online scene in that game was. For some reason, QII seemed like a letdown after Quake I. Better graphics, to be sure, but the gameplay itself just felt...squishier. Was it just me, or did you all feel the same way about it? iv been playing it a bit from time to time, found a good repacked version for better quality recentlyonly thing i dont like is that its TOO fast paced. No such thing!
Reaper Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I totally still play Quake 2 all the time. I am usually using a cow skin with several others. That is probably the main reason I still play is because of some old schoolers I still know on there and I always crack up at us ganging up on the other players, then jump and look silly. I should try to see if I can get Q1 to load up on here but I think I need an older system. I still have Blood and Doom from the days too.
SaGa Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 the texture quality on quake 2 just seemed annoying. like what where they thinking making some ugly textures

Slept with ghost Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I loved the soundtrack by nine inch nails. ID will be coming out with a fully free online version of a quake game I can't remember which one though.
