#1 "Globalized Jobs are coming back home". Only some of them, and the cost of shipping can indeed be passed on to the consumer. I for one may very well not buy that ottoman, even if it was made in North Carolina instead of Viet Nam.

#2 "Sprawl Stalls." Ok, sure, but the housing market was the last domino to fall before "recession" started tingling on the lips of newscasters. If we can assume gas prices will stay crappy for at least two more years, then we may see urban renewal. I, for one, am pretty sure with ramped up North American production of oil, we may very well see this as a blip.

#3 "Four day weeks." Well, you can't argue with results. Moreover, with more and more telecommuting, this may very well be here to stay.

#4 "Less Pollution." Google "coal to liquids" for me, would you?

#5 "More Frugality." Like the housing situation, we shall see.

#6 "Fewer Traffic Deaths." I could argue against this, but I like to think of myself as a decent enough human person. However, it all hinges on inefficient vehicles. As the fleet gets replaced with more efficient cars, this will not be true any more, sadly.

#7 "Lower Insurance." The insurance companies simply haven't had time to monetize the change in driving habits. Give them time, they'll screw the "pleasure drivers" soon enough.

#8 "Less Traffic." See number six.

#9 "More Cops On the beat." Do we really want healthy fascists?

#10 "Less Obesity." For now. We are talking about changing habits that took a lifetime to build. If gas prices significantly drop due to greater efficiency, more domestic production, and greater competition from other motive energy sources, the national waistline will begin to bulge again.

is there anything that anyone will say about the economy that you won't disagree with???....I'll admit that SOME of those are a stretch (Less Obesity...yeah..ok Time magazine..sure), but some of those WILL come to fruition with the higher gas prices.

I just think you like being a pessimist....

I would love Globalization to fail.

Is Globalization where they ship every conceivable job overseas as long as it will turn a greater profit?

(which is 'unspellcheckable')

Yup.

I though so. Thanx for the confirmation.

That shit sucks, I can't understand why I would get a call from the U.S. Grants department from what sounded like an out door bazaar; the woman on the other line only knew broken English and BUTCHERED "Mr.Collins". Not to mention the crappy products that are being put out now.

The new American motto should be "Better global jobs for greater CEO and shareholder profits at the expense of the American people."

Kinda rolls off the tongue eh?

If we could hook a hose up to our asses, and transfer the gas to our vehicles' gas tanks, I believe gas prices would drop like a rock. I also believe Taco Bell's profits would soar.
