Child Safety Seat Question?

Maybe someone here can help with this question. When can a child move from a car seat to a booster set? My daughter is 2 years old and will be 3 years in Sept. She always gets out of her car seat. I tighten the straps up as tight as I can get them but today I see that she is pushing the locking thingy on the strap. I always have to pull off the road and strap her back into her seat. I think maybe she would have more difficulty getting out of a booster seat since it uses the car seat belts. I don't know. I am getting tired of having to pull off the road every time she gets out.

There's lots of good info out there, just Google it. Here's a good one I found:

http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm

You're going to have to teach and constantly reinforce how important it is to never touch the latch and the consequences (Age appropriately) of unbuckling. Unfortunately, some kids are more prone to tinkering with certain objects then others. The bottom line: She's your child, do what you must to keep her safe and accept it as the price of being a responsible parent.

Michigan has new lasws regarding carseats that went into effect on July 1st.

This is the closest I could find:

http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1...13568--,00.html

But all kids now up to age four have to be in a CAR SEAT, only at age 4 can they be switched to a booster seat. My now four year old has been in a booster for about a year (since he was just over three - because the seat he had, he reached the weigh limit). I got lucky, because he turned 4 JUST BEFORE this went into effect. It's hard to find an actual carseat that fits a 4 year old.

I had a carseat escaper too ... my now 9 year old ... I would CONSTANTLY be pulling over as much as I told her she can't touch that. She's in a booster seat now (she's very tall, but very thin for her age) and I'm STILL, forever telling her to sit back or sit up (she tries to lay across the backseat of the car).

Somewhere on the michigan.gov site though they had the new carseat laws everywhere.

Here's a better one:

http://www.usa.safekids.org/skbu/cps/index.html

It says:

Use a forward-facing car seat (convertible or combo seat) until the harness no longer fits. Take the next step to a booster seat when you answer “yes” to any of these questions:

Does your child exceed the car seat’s height and weight limits?

Are your child’s shoulders above the car seat’s top harness slots?

Are the tops of your child’s ears above the the top the car seat?

Booster seats are for 40 to 80 or 100 pounds.

Actually after I posted this I found the instructions to the car seat. Perhaps readjustments to the belts are needed. Thank you for you advice. I shall try again.
