Mandatory Mental Screening for Children?!

90% of children who have behavior problems can be worked with and molded into fully functioning people without a single poison pill...the sad part is that a good amount of parents would just rather pop their kid a poison pill than actually have to do their job and raise their child. Imagine .

I can't fully discredit using meds, I did meet a 7 year old boy on my cousin's side of the family who was SO psychotic he HAD to be put on meds or else he would have killed himself and his family too. Brutally fucking insane. It's rare instances like that when meds should be even thought of being used, but if your kid is hyper and has a behavior problem, it's called BEING A KID.

That's why I'm against this whole measure...just another way for the government to try and get your kids on horrible poisoning drugs so they can make money and the teachers don't have to do anything. They don't give a shit about your kids - we live in America, it's all about the money and taking the easy way out. It's such a sick sad fucking world.

I don't think the percentage is that high. There's higher numbers of people with different degrees of "mental illnesses" having kids. A lot of that stuff does SEEM to run in families. I have ADD, her father has ADHD,= my oldest daughter has ADHD and other issues.

Specifically I think this is meant to tackle the ADHD issue. I don't think much more than that. More and more kids ARE being diagnosed with ADHD, some of them are true cases, some behaviour modification would be the answer, some of them even diet issues are the cause. I would think the government would be prepared for that.

My first insurance to treat my daughter was TriCare (Army insurance). Government run ... they sent her to many, many doctors to rule out food issues and genetic issues before they even mentioned referring her to mental health.

I also think because of the rise in adults having ADHD, their kids probably do have it too. I also think ADHD is also still a diagnosis used by PCP's as an easy way out. You should NEVER accept a diagnosis of ADHD from a PCP. The diagnosis should ALWAYS come from a licensed Psychiatrist who has evaluated your child properly.

Edited to add:

Medication for ADHD should also be paired with therapy to HELP that child learn to cope on his/her own, to get the best out of treatment. Even therapy without medication can help, depending on what is causing the ADHD to begin with.

lol I'm not a shrink actually, I work as a strategic officer - I write policies and strategies and put systems in place that will improve people's wellbeing. I tell others what they should and shouldn't do :D

I used to be a shrink though... lol

I think the comments on psychiatric evaluations for wanna-be parents is a much better place to start. Make sure parents are fit to have children first. That said, there will never be a perfect system. People will slip through either deliberately or accidentally. And lets not sit here and pretend that all mental health care workers are going to do a wonderful job. I've seen good ones and bad ones. The bad ones need to go see a therapist themselves....

And meds... have their place, but can you really tell the difference between behavioral problems and mental problems at such an early age? I'm thinking, not yet.

That would defiantly go over better.....

Why even give people the chance to fuck the kids up in the first place?????

I have some very radical views on the subject of shit parents {now or to be}.....But I will save my breath on that, because I would end up pissing ALLOT of people off.....

This line of thinking sort of scares me, too. The end result would be requiring would-be parents to obtain a license to have children, again taking away freedoms. What if the potential parents had the >option< of a screening, perhaps with monetary incentive (if passed at a high enough level) to be used towards raising their kid(s)?

Side note: people weren't screwed up back in the day... maybe we're not screwed up now and it's just the various institutions trying to profit from a propaganda camaign...
