Asprin or acetaminophen are LEGAL. Why did you just compare something LEGAL to something ILLEGAL? Pens= Legal Tea= Legal Stupid little pins= Legal. Pot= Illegal If you would love to contiune this, please, keep fueling the fire. But lets go to Phee's new thread, and stop jacking this one.

Oh_My_Goth Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Have I ever told you that I heart you! Continue with the smoke talk. Thanx
Rev.Reverence Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 addicts always say they're not an addict. Ask any alcoholic they all say they don't have a problem. You've lost your empirical point of view and now your ranting; last time I checked sarcasm was not a debate tool.. I'll quote myself,(the one you did not read, or you would not say "always" in this situation)you won't listen to me so it is useless. I still can't dig not being able to not walk down the street and have a smoke... {yes, because I don't want to wait to be home}{yes, addiction is a bitch}{yes, I will have to be far more a hermit than I am already}{yes, because of a nervous disorder I can not help but to feel paranoid in public}{yes, that is why I do not attempt to drive cars; which is why I'ld be WALKING(everywhere all the time)DOWN THE STREET}{yes, that makes me want a cig}{yes, that is weak of me}{yes, Humans ALL have weaknesses}{yes, my "pursuit of happiness" will be infringed upon}{yes, I am done for now}

Fin Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 You CAN smoke in a Masonic Temple. So I guess I know what to do in case this HORRENDOUS law is passed. SMOKERS REPRESENT! Holy macaroni dude--Rev's gonna be a MASON!!
Scales Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I am done with cigarettes for good because of the addiction and health-effects; I don't mind a little second-hand smoke but that's just me personally. I've always been respectful of other people's space when I've smoked. I'll have occasional flavored cigars or someone else's hookah (flavored tobacco with extremely low nicotine & tar) if I'm up for it. Keeping it occasional (like a pack of cigars every three or more months) means no addiction, and that's the extent of my tobacco usage because I do consider it a potentially dangerous drug once you go long-term with it. Obviously some people can smoke for years without major health effects, I just don't care to hedge my bets. There have been some attempts at miraculous anti-smoking pills. The one the comes to mind is Chantix, which capped off receptors in the brain and had "bad idea" written all over it. It's a scientific law of the universe you will have a reaction for every action, it seems with experimental drug companies capital optimism keeps winning over sympathetic doubt and they are not applying this law properly. (About Chantix...) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert concerning these symptoms, and Pfizer, the drug's maker, has more prominently warned about them in the drug's information packet. The FDA received reports of 37 suicides related to use of the drug and 491 cases in which people had suicidal thoughts. The FDA also said it "appears increasingly likely that there is an association between Chantix and serious neuropsychiatric symptoms." From - http://www.jointogether.org/news/headlines...ill-safety.html I think that banning smoking from public may seem like the greater good, but is overly drastic and coming from an already untrustworthy government; legislation like this might cause some smokers to quit through magic pills like Chantix when the reality is these anti-neurotic drugs (to clarify - I'm referring to drugs for various mood disorders and addictions) could be just as dangerous or more depending on the person taking them. There is a trend of the overly drastic irrationality in our government. With ridiculous, non-legible legislation that has been passed as law after 9/11, local government drug-war, and the consistently expanding line of experimental "anti-neurotic" drugs, many of which being marketed like candy. The government on a national and state level is developing a much stronger pattern than it ever has of intrusion.
Hellion Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Even though I smoke,I cannot stand cigars,those things make any place smell like dirty feet!!
Scales Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Even though I smoke,I cannot stand cigars,those things make any place smell like dirty feet!! Yeah I don't like normal cigars, I pretty much only buy these. They are wine-dipped, the second hand smoke comes off like red wine, first hand is good you just don't want to puff hard on it cause your dealing with tightly packed pipe-tobacco. /resume topic
Draco1958 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 One of the definitions of abuse: improper or excessive use or treatment It doesn't specify if the item being abused is legal or not. No where in the full definition of abuse does it state only if the thing being abused is illegal. So if I were to drink alcohol excessively that would be abuse. If I over use aspirin, that would be abuse. It doesn't have to be an illegal item to be considered abuse. Excessive use of something can be considered abuse. And why not compare legal things to illegal things since in this thread, smoking in the park has been compared to assraping a monkey and masturbation. At least the comparative of say apsirin to pot when it comes to abuse is a whole lot more logical than the other. I love how one comparison is ok but not the other. Please, keep this thread going. I need a good laugh and some of the stuff being said has me laughing till my eyes water. This thread started as a debate on a ban of smoking in public and has degraded to snide comments and ridiculous comparisons all in the name of I'm right, you are wrong. So lets include people who wear too much cologne, that makes my throat close up to the point of nearly having to go to the ER. And while they are at it, let's pass a bill that says if you are in a traffic jam, you have to shut your engine off. Nothing worse than the concentrated smell of car exhaust when you are trapped under an overpass on the freeway. Carbon Monoxide is deadly and no one, especially kids and those with breathing problems should have to put up with it. There are some good comparisons to use, leave the poor monkeys alone.
torn asunder Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 "I can stop any time I want, I just don't want to" - words of a TRUE addict dude this is seriously a kinda silly statement, because honestly, i could stop driving a car anytime i wanted to as well. does this make me a car addict? no, it means i appreciate the convenience a car affords me. i eat meat daily because i want to - if i say that i could stop any time i wanted to, it would be a true statement, but according to your logic, i'm now a meat addict. does this make any sense to you? doesn't to me...

Is your car driving a compulsive behavior? Probably not. His statement is probably more right then wrong when it references a habit that is compulsive or addictive and for which they are in denial about how much they're hooked to it.

Oh_My_Goth Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I would have to agree here.... Cigs are more phyically addictive then heroin Riiiiiiight.....
phee Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Not more psychologically addictive... just as physically addictive though... http://www1.umn.edu/perio/tobacco/nicaddct.html http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/119360087/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0 http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn41...09/ai_n14288415
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 to site the first link "A 1-2 pack per day smoker takes 200-400 hits daily for years. This constant intake of a fast acting drug (which affects mood, concentration & performance).. eventually produces dependence." 1-2 packs PER DAY....PER DAY...thats 7-14 packs A WEEK....364-728 packs in a YEAR....that study is highly suspect just for that statement alone. tell ya what....everyone want fair??..cool....gimme 1 week....I will poll 20-40 ppl, asking how many packs they smoke in a week, average....if it comes up UNDER 4-5 a week...we can assume that the first study above is suspect, k? I'm not saying the symptoms aren't there...I'm just saying the numbers feel like their moved up the chart to make an impression.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 It is vague.... but if nothing else they are close If I prove the numbers highly suspect....do I get a cookie? because studies like these rely heavily on numbers....like I said...I'm not arguing the symptoms...I'm arguing the statistical work done for the study.
