In America, one of the passengers probably would've pulled a gun and shot the perpetrator. But, since it's Canada and they deny their citizens the right to defend themselves, they just got to sit around and watch this gruesome scene unfold.

Guns or not, it's hard to believe 2 or 3 passengers couldn't have overpowered the guy. But then, nothing is easier than saying what other people "should've done" in a situation you've never experienced.

I was at my gramma's house helping her out with yard stuff when that was on the news. Apparantly, and I'm going off of memory, there were two guys (one of which being the driver) who stayed back thinking that they could possibly overpower the guy but apparantly they saw the victim on the ground already dead and figured that since it was too late for the person that there was no sense in getting themselves hurt/killed also so they bailed.

Victim was a juggalo.

I may have what people call liberal ideas about some issues but for cases like this one I think the punishment should be a brutal public beating to death of the guilty party.

Let that send a message to the other sick fucks out there that if you fuck up your punishment will be public and as brutal as can be given.

Maybe someday that might stop this senseless killing.

I wonder if the guy walked off the bus singing "Who's house??? RUUUN's house!"

The problem with that is, someone that messed up due to mental illness (which is what it sounds like is going on with this guy- by all reports he showed no emotion whatever as he hacked at the poor ninja) doesn't really care what becomes of them. In fact ISTR the only thing the killer said as they hauled him off was "please kill me" over & over again. If you have voices in your head telling you to do horrific things, any consequence is preferable to having the voices continue. Back when I worked in the mental health field I talked to a lot of schizophrenic people who had auditory hallucinations, and the general consensus is that you'll do just about anything if you think it will make the voices stop... you can't even think about the consequences (or anything else for that matter) because the voices are totally filling your consciousness.

With the straight sociopath/serial killer types who are not acting out of some psychotic delusion, it's more like the kids in my class who goad the other kids into beating them up... they truly don't care if they get pummelled. They have that deep need to get a reaction from the other kids, and if that reaction takes the form of a beating, all the better because they know they've really succeeded in pushing the other's buttons.

My own opinion is that nothing will change until we stop being so hung up on punishing people and put more resources into predicting and preventing these dysfunctional behaviors. Oh, sorry- that would mean creating a society where everyone's basic needs are met and people don't live lives of alienation and anger. And why would we do that when we know these people's problems are all their own fault?
