asphyxian_doll Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 "The technical photographic term for the occurrence of orbs, especially pronounced in modern ultra-compact cameras, is backscatter, orb backscatter or near-camera reflection." "Due to the size limitations of the modern compact and ultra-compact cameras, especially digital cameras, the distance between the lens and the built-in flash has decreased, thereby decreasing the angle of light reflection to the lens and increasing the liklihood of light reflection off normally sub-visible particles. Hence, the orb artifact is commonplace with small digital or film camera photographs. The orb artifact can result from reflection of light off solid particles (e.g., dust, pollen), liquid particles (water droplets - especially rain) or other foreign material within the camera lens." There was nothing in my lens, And, for your information....I have already read this article. Do me a favor and don't treat me like I'm stupid. I already said many times, I wouldn't have posted anything about this if i didn't know the cons and pros. Thanks.
torn asunder Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 to be honest (and while i do believe that some of these might be energetic in nature) the most likely cause of these isn't dirty lenses - in my experience, it's dust flying around in the air. i've never seen an orb in a picture taken without a flash. (have you?) i've also taken pictures with a digital, seen the "orb" in the pic, (then walking around to change my backlight source) and then actually seen the dust particles hovering in the air. the typical reason they look so out of focus and blurry is that the focal length of the camerais deep, and their proximity is too close to be seen clealy, but they still reflect light, and therefore show up in the pic. still, i'm not discounting the possibility that some of these are genuine, in fact, i do believe they can be - i'm just saying that most of them are floating particles of something, reflecting the flash back into the camera.
